England vs Samoa Betting Tips: Two predictions for Saturday's Rugby World Cup clash
England will head into Saturday afternoon's Rugby World Cup clash with Samoa looking to make it four wins out of four in the group stages and keep the momentum up ahead of an epic quarter final in all likelihood against Fiji next weekend. Steve Borthwick's men have surprised many this tournament with their displays as they were poor in the lead-up to the tournament, but have found some decent form, albeit in a relatively weak Pool D.
Samoa have only managed to secure one victory during the tournament and are likely to find it tough to record win number two against an English side that are red-hot favourites to maintain their 100% record. Our man Steve Chambers previews Saturday's clash in Lille and has two eye-catching bets for the second match of the day...
England v Samoa Tips
Having cruised past Chile in their first match, Samoa were plucky in defeat to both Argentina and Japan earlier in the tournament, but it could be a little different in Saturday's match against a resurgent England side that have had a week off and will be raring to go in Lille on Saturday afternoon.
Impressive against Argentina in their first match, England then stuttered against Japan for most of the contest, while they eased past Chile and they will be eager to try and hit top gear in this one ahead of their quarter-final next weekend, and Borthwick's side are around the 1/22 mark to land the victory, while Samoa are an unlikely 21/2 with BetMGM and the draw is 50/1.
Many will expect Samoa to run England relatively close, but with Argentina or Japan set to qualify with England then the Samoans could quite easily run out of gas in this event and like against Japan and Chile, England could pull well clear in the closing stages. With no value around in the win market the winning margin market looks an attractive market and the 13/2 with Betfred Bookmakers for England to win 26-30 points looks the order of the day. Owen Farrell and George Ford will be looking to combine to put the Samoan defence to the sword and with Marcus Smith waiting on the bench then England have ample creativity, while an attacking back-line to scare any nation Borthwick's side can cruise away from Samoa, who are sure to be aggressive from the first whistle.
It's been a quiet tournament so far for England winger Jonny May, who is yet to score a try in the tournament, but the 33-year-old can light up Saturday's clash and the 3/1 with BoyleSports for him to score two or more tries looks the bet. He had to watch on two weeks ago as his replacement Henry Arundell snaffled a stunning five tries in the dominant win over Chile to soar towards the summit of the top tryscorer standings, but May will be looking to get his own dab this weekend and he is more than capable.
Having played in the tough Argentina and Japan games, May should be able to get a little more space out wide in this Samoan clash and with him eager to get involved then he could well crop up all over the place as he looks to bag his 37th international try. May is one of the most talented try scorers at this Rugby World Cup and while the likes of Will Jordan for New Zealand and Damian Penaud have been scoring at will on the wing, May is sure to be a little frustrated he hasn't scored yet.
There's the obvious danger of Borthwick replacing him when England get comfortably in front, but May could well cause carnage out wide in the first half of this match and the 3/1 for him to grab a brace looks attractive, while for those who fancy a hat-trick could lap up the 12/1 available with some firms for him to score three tries.
