Darts Betting Tips: Three tips for Day 2 at the Ally Pally

As day two of the 2022 World Darts Championship gets underway at Alexandra Palace, @tomsportsjourno is on-hand to provide the lowdown ahead of the action.
On day two at Alexandra Palace, we’re being treated to a breath-taking double session with some really interesting ties to feast our eyes on.
Ahead of Thursday’s double session at Ally Pally, we have a high value trio of potential winners on day two, alternatively available as a 7/1 treble.
Darts World Championship Tips: Day 2
In Thursday afternoon’s opener, Ireland’s Steve Lennon takes on Latvian Madars Razma in a potentially mouth-watering encounter.
Razma, who produced two nine-darters on tour towards the back end of the year is most certainly a player very much inform - reaching the semi finals of Players Championship 26 at the end of October, just losing out to former World Champion, Rob Cross.
In terms of his overall performance over the course of the year, Razma recorded a seasonal average of 91.5, with a first 9 average of 98.3. As for Lennon, the Irishman had endured a below-par year on the oche in comparison to his achievements in 2020 and 2019.
However, the 28-year old has the potential to score heavily and really turn a game on its head. In comparison to his Latvian counterpart, Lennon boasts a higher seasonal average (92.9) and a three-figure first 9 season average (102.0).
In terms of this particular tungsten toss-up, I expect a closely-contested battle with Razma rising to the occasion, just. Available at 4/5.
In the second match in Thursday afternoon’s tungsten feast, the 2015 Lakeside World Champion, Scott Mitchell takes on a bit of an unknown quantity in Chris Landman, the Dutchman.
Landman appeared in several BDO World Championships over recent years and successfully qualified for Alexandra Palace via the Western European qualifier for the World Darts Championship, defeating the likes of Ronny Huybrechts (6-5), Rick Hofstra (6-5), Maikel Verberk (6-1) and Danny van Trijp (6-3).
Landman becomes the tenth Dutchman to qualify for this year's event and will be hopeful of impressing, on debut.
As for Mitchell, who runs a farm in Dorset as his day job, he has produced a number of impressive performances as a PDC tour-card holder in his first year. Inside the world’s top 35 in terms of seasonal average with a 93.69 over the course of 2021, producing several ton-plus averages on the Players Championship series.
With all things considered, statistics digested and analysed, Mitchell wins this one, convincingly. My recommendation for this one is the match handicap market with -1.5 sets in favour of Scott Mitchell available at 8/11.
Ahead of the evening session on day two, Another Irishman in the form of William O’Connor takes to the stage to face off with Indiana’s Danny Lauby, the son of Dan Lauby, who has also featured at the World Darts Championship over the years.
Lauby produced an impressive showing on-debut just 12 months ago, pushing Ryan Searle all the way in a thrilling encounter. The American has been in the UK for just over a month competing in the Online Darts Live League, reaching the latter stages, producing some eye-catching performances.
As for William O’Connor, it’s been a steady year on the pro-tour whilst not really producing anything spectacular, the Irishman recorded a seasonal average of 91.7, but his averages week-by-week were inconsistent by his usually high standards.
With both players recording similar numbers, it’s really difficult to separate the pair heading into this one. Both can score heavily when on-song and although O’Connor has the more experience both as a tour-card holder and on the big televised stages, Lauby showed 12 months ago, he can produce the goods on the World Championship stage.
I’m going to stick my neck out, here and recommend a five-set thriller. Which is available at 7/4.
