Cristiano Ronaldo next club odds: A return to Sporting Lisbon is the bookmakers fancy

Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United has finally come to an end following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
I think it’s fair to say that we all saw this coming after what he said in the interview, but the real question is, what next for Ronaldo? The Portuguese star has too big of an ego to call time on his playing career and still believes he is one of the best players in the world.
Whilst his stats may not be in his favour these days, you don’t lose your class overnight and maybe this move away from Manchester United will see Cristiano back to his best, or has age just caught up to him? Well, the bookmakers have odds for his next move so we thought we’d take a look at them.

Sporting Lisbon: 3/1
As is the case with most footballers, that dream return to their first club is always rumoured when they are approaching the end of their career and for Cristiano Ronaldo, a return to Sporting Lisbon is the bookmakers favoured destination.
The 37-year-old is getting on a bit and a move to a less competitive league might suit the forward, you’d like to think he could handle the Primeira Liga defenders better than the Premier League defenders and the fans are likely to welcome him back with open arms.
However, the club was linked with a loan move for him at the start of this season and they said they simply can’t afford it. It’s not like Ronaldo is short of money and a pay cut could definitely be on the cards, but that doesn’t really suit his personality. Sporting would be a great move for him but financially makes no sense for Lisbon.

Chelsea: 4/1
Speaking of money, a club that has plenty is Chelsea. In the summer transfer window they went into odds on to sign Ronaldo but as he made it clear he wanted to stay at United, Chelsea gave up on him.
Now that he is back on the market, who knows? Chelsea will be more than happy to pay his wages and with Ronaldo already being accustomed to the Premier League, it could definitely happen.
Seeing Ronaldo playing under Graham Potter would be strange enough but it’s 2022 and weirder things have definitely happened. Ronaldo will at least be a free transfer as he is no longer under contract with Man Utd so they can perhaps justify the crazy wages.
Any MLS Club: 6/1
The MLS seems to be the retirement home for ex-Premier League stars with Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic making their moves over to the states. This time we’re talking about one of the greatest players of all time making a move there and it could make sense.
American clubs will be throwing huge contracts at the Portuguese international in the hopes of building their brand and you’d think Ronaldo would also be looking to build his brand even further in America.
It’d be tough to call which club he would be going to as players do seem to pick the most random MLS clubs, I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of the Los Angeles clubs go in for him and David Beckham’s Inter Miami could even be on the cards.
Bayern Munich: 17/2
Bayern Munich have been linked with Ronaldo in the past and it would be a great move for him as he’s pretty much guaranteed a couple of titles every season.
On top of that, we all know the Bundesliga isn’t the most competitive league and he would probably be right back in the goalscoring department thanks to Bayern’s domination.
Bayern also are yet to adequately replace Lewandowski and with Ronaldo being a free transfer, it could definitely tempt the club, but Bayern a club with stringent rules and investing so heavily into an aging player does not fit their ethos, as much sense as it makes, I don’t see this one happening.
PSG: 12/1
Speaking of fairly poor leagues we have the kings of the French Ligue 1 PSG. This club oozes money and they would be made up if they could manage to get Ronaldo and Messi on the same pitch.
However, from a purely footballing perspective, it makes no sense to replace either Neymar or Mbappe with Cirstiano Ronaldo, but ultimately PSG are building themselves to be a huge brand if they can get arguably the two greatest football players of all time on the same pitch at once, they’ll surely be interested.
Who knows, maybe Mbappe leaves to somewhere else and they get Ronaldo in. Anyone for Mbappe in the Premier League to rival Haaland and then Ronaldo playing alongside Messi? Sounds good to us.
