Chelsea were denied a late winner against Aston Villa on Saturday with VAR ruling out Axel Disasi’s strike. The Blues have lost just one of their last 33 home league games against Spurs, going down 3-1 in April 2018 when Tottenham were under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino.
Ange Postecoglou’s side can close the gap to Aston Villa in fourth to just four points with a win in West London. The Lilywhites are winless in their last two having suffered a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle, before a 3-2 loss at home to Arsenal on Sunday in the North London derby.
Taking a look at the match result odds and the hosts are the favourites to collect the three points, priced at 6/5, implying a 46% chance of victory. The draw can be backed at 3/1, while a win for Spurs is an industry best-price of 2/1 with BetMGM.
Chelsea vs Spurs Tips
Both of our tips involve Chelsea’s stand-out player this season, Cole Palmer. It’s been a sensational campaign for the youngster who has pretty much solidified his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships.
After a run of just one win in 14 top-flight home games between March and November in 2023 (D7 L6), Pochettino’s side have now come out on top in seven of their last nine at Stamford Bridge (D1 L1). The Blues have bagged 29 goals in their last 10 home league fixtures, as many as they had in their previous 27.
With this in mind we think we’ll see a high scoring game and you guessed it, we are backing Cole Palmer to find the net. The 21 year old has managed 20 league goals in his first season with Chelsea, averaging a goal every 109 minutes. Penalty taker for his club, much to the annoyance of a few of his rather childish teammates, Palmer has scored in each of his last seven Premier League home games, netting 13 goals in total in this run – it’s the longest scoring streak by a Chelsea player at Stamford Bridge in Premier League history.
BetMGM are best priced of any of the UK bookmakers on Cole Palmer to score at 6/4, with other firms such as Sky Bet going just 8/11 about the same selection. We’ll also be adding Palmer to be carded into a little bet builder which takes us up to a very backable 9/1.
Besides being a common goal scorer for his club this season, Palmer has also been a regular collector of cards, having picked up seven yellows in the Premier League. It’s worth noting that this bet of him to score and be carded has landed in three of his ten starts on home soil this term, with it clicking against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham.
