Champions League Gameweek Tips
Feyenoord vs Celtic
- Tuesday 19th September, TNT Sports 1, 8.00pm
Feyenoord are yet to face defeat in the league this season and are coming into this game with all the momentum they need with a 6-1 win, a 5-1 win and another 6-1 win under their belt in the last three games they’ve played. A similar thing can be said for Celtic as they’re yet to face defeat but their results recently have been nowhere near impressive.
With Feyneoord having the home advantage and scoring 12 goals in their last two home games, you have to side with the Dutch team here.
Anthony Eadson's Prediction: Feyenoord 2-0 Celtic
Bayern Munich vs Man Utd
- Wednesday 20th September, TNT Sports 2, 8.00pm
It has been a worrying start to the season for Manchester United with three defeats from five games leaving the Red Devils already facing an uphill task to finish inside the top 4 as they did last year. They begin their European campaign with one of the toughest games they could’ve faced, Bayern Munich away.
Thomas Tuchel’s side started the season with three consecutive wins but their 100% record was ended with a draw against Leverkusen on the weekend. They are not at their swashbuckling best yet but look levels above the current United and a home win looks a no brainer in this clash. It’ll be interesting to see Harry Kane make his European debut for Bayern against an opponent he knows well and I expect him to score in a routine victory.
Billy Grimshaw’s Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-0 Man Utd
PSG vs Dortmund
- Tuesday 19th September, TNT Sports 3, 8.00pm
PSG suffered a shock defeat at the weekend and the French heavyweights will welcome a Dortmund side that are unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season, so it's set to be a really close encounter. Both sides will hold aspirations to go deep in this season's Champions League and they could well be both happy with a point, so back the 1-1 draw for what should be one of the clashes of week 1.
Steve Chambers’ Prediction: PSG 1-1 Dortmund
Man City vs Red Star Belgrade
- Tuesday 19th September, TNT Sports 2, 8.00pm
This fixture is probably the most routine of home ties that Man City could hope to start off their Champions League defence campaign with. Belgrade have lost twice in the Serbian SuperLiga already and carry over a dismal European campaign from last term which saw them miss out on UCL qualification and languish bottom of their Europa League group. There'll be no chance of an upset here.
Luke Hamilton’s Prediction: Man City 5-0 Red Star Belgrade
AC Milan vs Newcastle
- Tuesday 19th September, TNT Sports 1, 5.45pm
Newcastle have been handed a tricky return to the Champions League on Tuesday when they travel to the San Siro to face AC Milan. However, they will be buoyed by the shock manner of AC's 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Inter over the weekend. As for the Toon, they ended a run of three straight defeats with a morale-boosting win at home to Brentford. AC may be wounded in the aftermath of the Inter shambles, but prior to that they'd won all three games this season, and now Tuesday night gives the more experienced European outfit the chance to bounce back with a win against a club that's not featured in the group stages since 2002/03.
Jack Kitson's Prediction: AC Milan 2-1 Newcastle
Arsenal vs PSV
Arsenal have continued on from their impressive performances last season and have looked just as good at the beginning of the 23/24 campaign. They host PSV in their return to the Champions League and they come in as massive favourites with the betting sites.
Arsenal’s last game at the Emirates was an impressive display against Manchester United where they won 3-1 and they’ll be looking to put in a similar performance here. PSV have been incredible so far this season and could pose a threat to Arsenal if the Gunners have an off day but that’s not looking likely so far, I expect them to get on the scoresheet as they are seemingly scoring for fun at the moment but on paper, Arsenal are a cut above them at the moment.
Steven McQuillan's Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 PSV
