ATP Finals Day 5 Tips
Novak Djokovic vs Hubert Hurkacz
The first match will not be one that many people thought would happen.
Hubert Hurkacz has Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Greek was forced to retired early on against Holger Rune.
Sadly, the Pole won't be able to progress through to the next stage as he's taking Tsitsipas' points of zero after two matches.
Djokovic is needing a win today after losing out to Jannik Sinner in his previous match in a tight three set battle which saw the Italian win in a third set tie break.
Hurkacz hasn't had much luck in the ATP finals, where he played once before back in 2021 when lost every match (Daniil Medvedev in three, Jannik Sinner in two, and Alexander Zverev in two).
He comes into today's match with just a jokey exhibition match as experience on these courts. He has an insane tie break record, playing 40 tie breaks this year. With that in mind and the fast conditions here at altitude level, I think the Over 21.5 games at 11/8 is a tempting number to play.
Jannik Sinner vs Holger Rune
The second match sees Jannik Sinner take on Holger Rune in the evening session.
Sinner has had a perfect week so far, winning both his matches in impressive fashion. The Italian dominated Stefanos Tsitsipas in his opening match, then took down the World Number one in three sets.
He now faces Rune, who has technically only won one complete set against Novak Djokovic in his opening match, but with Tsitsipas retiring, that earned him a nice 2-0 win which is crucial for the Dane in the standings.
Rune leads Jannik Sinner in the head-to-head record 2-0, beating him in Sofia (where the Italian was forced to retire) and Monte Carlo.
Despite this negative head-to-head record, I have faith in the Italian. He's been playing stellar tennis this week and in 2023 as a whole, and I think the -3.5 games is showing some value at 5/6 against Holger Rune who hasn't looked great the past few months.
