Arsenal's potent attack, which has amassed 31 goals in seven Premier League games in 2024, displayed its prowess in a commanding 6-0 victory against Sheffield United on Monday. With an eighth consecutive league win, the Gunners could rise to first place, setting the stage for their crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Porto.
Meanwhile, Brentford enter the contest following a 2-2 draw with Chelsea, briefly interrupting a three-game losing streak in the Premier League. In their recent away fixture, Brentford faced a 4-2 defeat against West Ham United, highlighting defensive vulnerabilities that could be exploited by Arsenal's set-piece prowess. Sitting in 15th place, the Bees have increased their gap over the relegation zone to six points but face a challenging task at the Emirates, a venue where they secured a 1-1 draw last February amidst VAR controversies.
In Arsenal's impressive victory against Sheffield United, Thomas Partey marked his return after nearly five months due to a thigh problem. While Bukayo Saka is expected to recover from sickness, there might be squad rotation, with Leandro Trossard or Gabriel Jesus potentially stepping in for the Porto-focused Martinelli. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko are nearing comebacks, but Jurrien Timber remains unavailable, along with Bees-owned goalkeeper David Raya. Aaron Ramsdale is set to start in goal.
On the Brentford side, there are no new injuries following their draw with Chelsea. However, they continue to miss several key players, including Bryan Mbeumo, Kevin Schade, Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock, Rico Henry, and Josh Dasilva. Adding to their injury concerns, Ben Mee has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle fracture sustained in the West Ham defeat. Despite these setbacks, Brentford's attacking duo of Yoane Wissa and Ivan Toney, known for his controversial equaliser at the Emirates last season, are expected to lead the line.
Arsenal vs Brentford Tips
Arsenal rank 19th for fouls committed (9.6 per game), with City the only lower offenders in the Premier League. The Brazilian centre back, Gabriel, has certainly helped push up these numbers in recent games, registering twelve fouls across just ten matches, with a foul in eight of the ten.
This angle looks value on Gabriels numbers alone (0,2,2,1,1,1,2,1,0,2), but given the fact Brentford are set to lead the line with both Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa who both draw more fouls than any other Brentford players, I like it even more.
Arsenal's style of play sees them extremely high up the pitch which gives space for the opposition to try to get in behind, often to no avail, but does see their opposition register plenty of offsides. Arsenal's opposition have registered an offside in fifteen straight games vs the Gunners, and Brentford have also been flagged eleven times across just their last four.
Arsenal have been in ridiculous form of late, absolutely dominating teams, even more so in the first half.
Brentford's first half performances have been extremely passive in these tough games. Across their last four games, they have played Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool, registering zero corners in the first half of all three. Along with these passive attacking first halves, they’ve also been passive in trying to regain possession, making just three first half fouls across those three tough games. They have managed a few offsides in the first halves which is registered as a free kick, but across the Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool game, they gave away just three, two and two first half free kicks, all with zero corners, seeing this 18/1 land in all three matches!
It seems a tough ask, but at 18/1 I am happy to take a punt, especially given the fact this also landed in Arsenal's last home game where they restricted Newcastle to zero first half corners and just two fouls, also landing this exact bet.
