Ghana are bidding to bounce back from failing to win a game in 2014 and missing out altogether four years later. Prior to that, the Black Stars had been very impressive on the biggest stage, reaching the last-16 in their first showing in 2006 - losing to Brazil - followed by a stunning venture to the quarter-finals in 2010, which could well have been a semi-final showing if the one who shall not be named - Luis Suarez - hadn't inexplicably handled the ball on the goalline.
South Korea stuttered in the group stages in both 2014 and 2018, winning just one of their last six World Cup games. They last progressed through to the knockout-stages in 2010, and memorably finished 4th on home soil back in 2002.
When it comes to the history between the countries, Ghana have three wins to South Korea's one victory, with all four meetings international friendlies taking place since 2006: the duel in Qatar will be the first-ever competitive encounter.
In the last clash back in 2014. Ghana hammered South Korea 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Jordan Ayew.
