Established in 1920, Morecambe had long been associated with the non-league football scene, but in the 2006/2007 season the Shrimps managed to finally make it into the Football League.
Morecambe's FA Trophy win in 1974 was their greatest accolade, but it was the appointment of former Manchester United star Sammy McIlroy that would be the catalyst for greater things as the former midfielder was instrumental in their promotion from the Conference.
