World Cup 2022 Golden Glove Odds: Analysing the final contenders

The Golden Glove is awarded to the goalkeeper deemed to have had the best World Cup, and there is quite a list of recipients down the years. Banks, Buffon and Casillas have scooped the gong but this year who will claim one of the most coveted prizes in goalkeeping?
Here at BettingOdds we've taken a look at the latest odds as World Cup Final weekend draws in and analysed the chances of the four shot stoppers with a game still left to be played.
Yassine Bounou
Morocco, although now sadly out of contention to scoop the World Cup, have undoubtedly been the story of the tournament. Ranked as one of the outsiders before a ball was kicked, their stunning defensive minded displays saw them reach the semi-finals conceding just one goal. This was an own goal, so no opposition player before France defeated them had managed to beat Bounou.
The Moroccan goalie has become a bit of a sensation this tournament, scooping two man of the match awards and winning the hearts of many fans with his cracking saves and then reactions afterwards. Even if Morocco are beaten in the fairly meaningless 3rd place play-off, Bounou looks a solid favourite at 7/4 with Boylesports (he was 14/1 pretournament and drifted to as big as 25/1 in the group stages).
With four clean sheets, two man of the match awards and some penalty shootout heroics, Bounou looks the most likely winner to us and unless Emi Martinez or Hugo Lloris star in a final victory he looks a good punt.
Emiliano Martinez
Former Arsenal and current Aston Villa star Martinez is one of the loudest mouths in world football. When he's not bellowing at his own teammates he's trying to get under the skin of the opposition or psyching out their penalty takers.
Even after the final whistle he's proved he's not shy of piping up, offering a scathing assessment of the referee after their win over The Netherlands. He may not be tremendously likeable but he is undoubtedly a quality keeper and if Argentina are to win the World Cup he will fancy his chances of scooping the prize ahead of Bouno.
At the same price as the Moroccan keeper however, and with victory in the final by no means a guarantee, Martinez makes little betting appeal. If Argentina are to be beaten then surely he will not pick up the award, while if they win but he concedes a goal or the Argentines are comfortable winners then he will not be the one making the headlines. At this stage, Lloris at a much bigger price would appeal more from a value point of view.
Hugo Lloris
France's longstanding captain has been a mainstay of Les Bleus between the sticks for nearly two decades now and Tottenham's keeper is in contention for the Golden Glove once again. In truth, Lloris hasn't had a spectacular tournament and if he is to win the award it will be due to his side defending their title and the image of him lifting the World Cup aloft for the second time in four years.
He made some decent saves in the group stages and one outstanding stop against England, but has not received the fanfare of favourite Bouno or the notoriety of the hot-headed Martinez.
With a tremendous display in the final, or even some penalty shoot-out heroics, Lloris could catapult himself into the favourite's spot for this award. He certainly makes more appeal to us than Martinez considering the final is basically 50/50 with most firms, so if you are wanting a punt on this market and don't fancy taking short odds on Bouno then Lloris would be our selection.
Dominik Livakovic
It is hard to see an outcome where Croatian stopper Livakovic (best priced 6/1 at the time of writing) wins the 2022 Golden Glove.
He has undoubtedly had a cracking tournament, with penalty shootout successes over Brazil and Japan having a lot to do with his prowess between the sticks. However, even with a career-best performance in the 3rd placed play-off, the low-key nature of this game in comparison to the final means whatever Livakovic does isn't likely to be enough to sway the judges away from Bouno or whichever keeper potentially decides the final.
With Lloris at just two points shorter in the betting and Bouno our pick while still at the same price as Martinez, Livakovic is the keeper we fancy least to grab the Golden Glove. His price seems about half of what it should be and with a lack of meaningful games in which to further his claims he is the one left in the field to avoid.
