World Athletics Championships 2023: Women's 200m Odds & Contenders
The Women's 100m final more than lived up to the hype as Sha’Carri Richardson bolted to victory in her debut World Athletics Championships.
The American is now set to return to the track in the 200m where she'll look to challenge the likes of defending champion Shericka Jackson and the fastest woman so far this year, Gabrielle Thomas, for gold medal glory.
Below we've looked at the main contenders and their odds to triumph in the discipline.
Shericka Jackson
100m silver medalist Shericka Jackson is the odds-on favourite at 2/5 to retain her crown in the 200m.
The Jamaican is the fastest woman alive at the distance - her best is 21.45 - and second fastest of all time behind Florence Griffith-Joyner, so it's no surprise to see her installed as the red-hot frontrunner at the Worlds.
Gabrielle Thomas
No woman has run faster than Gabrielle Thomas so far in 2023.
Thomas' time of 21.60 at last month's USA Championships propelled her up to fourth on the all-time list.
The USA haven't produced a gold medal winner since way back in 2009 when Allyson Felix secured her third straight win, with Thomas the favourite of her compatriates to end this streak at 4/1.
Sha’Carri Richardson
Sha’Carri Richardson was visibly stunned after winning gold from lane 9 in the 100m on Monday night.
The American is now priced at 6/1 to go on and double up by claiming gold in the 200m.
Richardson's best time this season is 21.94, which puts her fourth in the 2023 time table.
Julien Alfred
Julien Alfred could attract attention out at 12/1 given that's she's the third fastest 200m runner this year behind Gabrielle Thomas and Shericka Jackson.
The 22-year-old Saint Lucian has won seven of her eight races this year with a season best time of 21.91.
Selected Others
Ivorian Marie-Josée Ta Lou is sure to be in the mix at 12/1.
Dina Asher-Smith, 18/1, will look to bounce back from an 8th place finish in what was a highly-competitive 100m final. The Brit won gold in the 200m back in 2019 and bronze last year, while her personal best is 21.88.
Fellow Brit, Daryll Neita, is out at 80/1.
