Switzerland vs. Spain Predictions: Spaniards to get their Nations League campaign up and running
There are nine Nations league ties taking place on Thursday evening and in Group A2 we have a couple of tasty looking fixtures. Here we have asked Adam Roberts to preview the game between Switzerland and Spain and he's given us his best two bets for the occasion.
Switzerland vs. Spain Tips
Thursday night sees Switzerland taking on Spain at the Stade de Genève in Lancy and they badly need a result here. They've started their Nations League campaign with two losses and have conceded six goals along the way. It's not going to get any easier against a strong Spain side who, although they have yet to win in this tournament so far, haven't lost either and will be turning up here expecting to win.
Luis Enrique's men reached the semi finals of Euro 2020 and finished the 20/21 Nations League in 2nd place so will see this tournament as an ideal spring board to a successful Qatar 2022. Against a Swiss team that shipped four last time out against Portugal , they will see this as a perfect opportunity to get back on track in this competition.
Murat Yakin will be without the suspended Fabian Schar and is sweating on the fitness of Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi.
Enrique's only injury worry is Ansu Fati who has struggled to get back to full match fitness after numerous injuries.
My first selection is for Spain to pick up their first win of this years Nations League campaign. Switzerland have been dire in their first two games and a shadow of the side that were knocked out of Euro 2020 quarter finals by the side they face again on Thursday night. Whilst Spain haven't exactly pulled up any trees recently, they are unbeaten in eight games and should have plenty enough quality to get past the Swiss.
One of the bet365 boosts caught my eye and I am taking it as my 2nd selection.
I've already covered Spain to win, but I'm combining to with Both Teams to Score and Alvaro Morata to have 2+ shots on target.
Switzerland have scored in seven of their last eight games in all competitions, while Spain have conceded in both Nations League games thus far.
Morata, who played on loan at Juventus this season, is expected to return to the starting line up and has had a decent season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions. Morata has let off 25 shots on target in just 26 starts for Juve this season and has 26 goals in 54 starts for his country. Against a backline as shaky as Switzerland, he should have a field day.
The price has been boosted from 7/1 out to 9/1 and looks value at that price.
