Sheffield Wednesday vs. Middlesbrough Betting Tips: Best bets from Hillsborough including a 7/1 poke
Football league fans have a full slate of midweek fixtures to look forward to this week with Sheffield Wednesday against Middlesbrough being the live offering on Sky Sports on Tuesday. Our resident tipster Anthony Eadson has made a case for two bets that he likes the look of which you can read all about below.
It was yet another defeat for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Ipswich thanks to a Conor Chaplin goal. The Owls are yet to get their first win of the season in the Championship with manager Xisco Munoz issuing an apology to the fans after the loss.
Before a ball was kicked this term, few punters would have predicted that Middlesbrough would sit bottom of the table after five rounds of fixtures. Michael Carrick’s men have taken just one point from a possible 15 so far this term and will be desperate to get that first W against strugglers Wednesday.
Middlesbrough were well fancied for a promotion push once again this season and remain the favourites for Tuesday’s clash despite their poor form, priced at 23/20 for the win. The draw can be backed at 5/2, while a first win of the campaign for the hosts is chalked up at 23/10.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Middlesbrough Tips
First up at Hillsborough I’m getting behind a selection from the shots on target market provided by William Hill, where they have priced Marcus Forss at a generous looking 21/20 to record at least one in the match.
Middlesbrough’s most recent defeat came at Ewood Park on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 by Blackburn Rovers. One positive Michael Carrick can take was that his side created plenty of chances letting off 21 shots in comparison to 15 from Rovers.
Five of those shots on Saturday came from Marcus Forss who has let off 20 attempts across five matches so far this term. Taking a look at his shots on target figures, the Finnish forward has managed one in every league appearance this season, despite only starting three of his side's five matches. I’d have this selection priced much closer to the 4/5 region and I think odds-against is too big here with Hills.
I’ve been shocked by Boro’s start to the campaign but I still believe they have the quality to challenge for the play-off places once again this season. These two sides have scored a measly eight goals between them so far this term and I think it will be a rather low scoring affair on Tuesday.
For those reasons, I’ve taken a lean towards backing Middlesbrough to win the game to nil. Sheffield Wednesday have failed to score twice in front of their fans already since their return to the Championship and another narrow defeat could be on the cards here. At the time of writing bet365 are best-priced on the 1-0 Boro scoreline at 7/1.
