The Lions of Teranga hold a 100% record at the tournament so far, having swept aside Gambia, Cameroon and Guinea during the group stages. Senegal are undefeated in their last six matches, winning five, somewhat surprisingly available at above even money to win this match despite all signs pointing to this outcome.
Ivory Coast are in a bit of a crisis at the moment, having won just one of their three group stage matches, sacking their head coach yet still qualifying for the knockout stages as one of the best ranked 3rd placed teams. Equatorial Guinea hammered The Elephants 4-0 a week ago on matchday 3 which has seen the hosts established as 13/5 underdogs - a price far too short for many we suspect.
Senegal vs Ivory Coast Tips
We've seen a couple of appetising prices for Senegal to win at this tournament already and the 27/20 on offer for their last-16 encounter with Ivory Coast greatly appeals. Aliou Cisse's men have almost every advantage over Ivory Coast in this match: they're the higher ranked team according to FIFA, they've had more recent success in winning the 2021 tournament and making it through to the round of 32 at World Cup 2022, as well as holding the better current form.
That 4-0 pummelling was the final straw for the Ivorian Football Federation, who after back-to-back group stage defeats, relieved Jean-Louis Gasset of his duties as head coach. Former international Emerse Fae will assume caretaker responsibilities for this match and the remainder of the tournament, stepping up from his role as assistant coach of the national side.
Despite over 10 years of studying and application within the coaching world, this is Fae's only experience of taking charge at senior level. With a fragmented Ivory Coast side facing the tournament favourites who will only take confidence from the troubles their counterparts are experiencing, we have to be all over Senegal's price in the match result market.
In addition to a Senegal win, we've added over 2.5 match goals and BTTS - No to form a 17/1 long shot for the round of 16 clash. Two of The Lions of Teranga's three AFCON group stage matches met this line, defeating Gambia 3-0 in the Group C opener before then trouncing Cameroon 3-1 in the following match.
For Ivory Coast, it'll be difficult to unlearn a lot of the issues Jean-Louis Gasset installed into the team, meaning it wouldn't be a complete shock if Senegal were able to muster a similar result as Equatorial Guinea managed against the tournament hosts in their third and final group outing.
Seko Fofana and Jean-Philippe Krasso provided the goals in a 2-0 opening victory over Guinea-Bissau over two weeks ago, however, since then Ivory Coast have had no reply to Nigeria or any of the aforementioned four goals put past them on matchday 3. Senegal have hit eight already in three matches and whether there's an early goal or sustained pressure on the hosts from the off, we don't believe they'll have the right preparation to respond positively.
