Robert Lewandowski Next Club Odds: Barcelona favourites to sign the striking superstar
The footballing season is coming to an end, with most domestic leagues already finished. And that can only mean one thing, the return of endless months of sensational transfer speculation.
Whilst some clubs like to get their business done early (see Man City with Haaland), others have the tendency to be linked with every player under God’s green earth. With some of Europe’s major teams having had a poor season, they’ll be looking for ways to return them to the top of the class, and today’s transfer focus is surely one of the best routes to that.
There were reports last season that Robert Lewandowski was after a new challenge, seemingly having achieved everything he possibly could have at Bayern Munich. Alas, he stayed another season, scoring just the 35 league goals in 34 games, not forgetting his 13 in the Champions League. The Polish striker’s agent has stirred things up in recent days, saying that Bayern is history for Lewa, with the main man himself reportedly trying everything he can to move clubs this summer.
Remarkably, Lewandowski averages a goal involvement in every game since the start of the 2010/11 season (561 in 561), and that record will mean he’s not short of any suitors this window. We’ve taken a look at the odds for his next club, courtesy of Paddy Power.
Barcelona: 1/3
The move the striking superstar is desiring seems to be heading to Catalunya. Barcelona’s recent troubles have been well documented, but a resurgence under the tutelage of Xavi has seen them finish the season in a much better position than they started. Given where they were at one point, a second place finish isn’t bad at all, and with investment seemingly on its way, they could be a side to watch out for next season.
Adding in the guaranteed goals of one of the best striker’s of his generation, the task of returning Barca to the top of Spanish and European football seems to be the most alluring one to Lewandowski, and it’s hard to see anything other than this move coming to fruition, showcased as well by the 75% chance the bookies’ are giving it at a price of 1/3.
PSG: 5/1
Although the Barca move is clearly what Lewandowski is yearning for, as we've seen in the case of Mbappe and Madrid, plans don’t necessarily work out the way it’s thought they would. PSG are next in the betting at 5/1, and this is a potential move that could work for the striker.
The French club can almost certainly afford to add him to their squad, but the biggest question here would be, where would he fit in? With Messi, Mbappe and Neymar occupying the front three, Lewa may not be guaranteed a starting place in his favourite spot, but on the flipside, the almost certainty of winning at least one trophy every season may be one that attracts him to the French capital.
Man Utd: 16/1
A new era dawns at Old Trafford, and could that be heralded by a new star signing?
It remains to be seen whether Cristiano Ronaldo will extend his return to Man Utd, but all indications from Erik ten Hag is that he’d like the Portuguese man to continue at the club. We all know what Ronaldo brings to the table in terms of goals and leadership, and a potential addition in the form of 50 goal a season Lewandowski could be one to intrigue the new management.
Again, whether both forwards could co-exist without being the star striker is a question that may be asked this summer, but nevertheless, the 16/1 is one to keep an eye on.
Liverpool: 18/1
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott, and Fabio Carvalho, surely Liverpool don’t need any more prolific forwards?
But, hear me out, this could actually make sense. With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson supplying balls in from the wing, Lewandowski either starting or coming off the bench, this could actually work for Liverpool. Not counting the connection between Klopp and the Pole, having previously worked together at Dortmund, this could be a smart move for both parties. Although there has been no links so far, it’s another one to keep an eye on.
Chelsea: 18/1
Could Robert Lewandowski be the man to cure Chelsea’s striking problem? With all the noise around Romelu Lukaku this season, Chelsea may be looking to get rid of their £90m man, and Timo Werner’s inability to score consistently could lead them to look elsewhere.
What better solution to people who can’t score goals, than one man who seemingly can’t stop scoring goals? Lewandowski would be the clear figurehead at the top of Chelsea’s lineup, and his experience and knowledge of the game could prove vital to some of Thomas Tuchel’s younger players. 18/1 definitely warrants us keeping a close eye on any links.
