Rangers vs. Celtic Betting Tips: Best bets for the first Old Firm of the season
We have the first Old Firm of the season on Sunday lunchtime as Rangers face Celtic at Ibrox in this historic fixture. We’ve asked Anthony Eadson to once again provide his best bets which you can read about below.
Rangers vs Celtic Tips
For our first selection in Glasgow we are backing Celtic to get the win. Taking a look at the match result odds and the visitors can be backed at 9/5 with most bookmakers, which looks too big in our eyes considering the week Rangers have had.
The Gers traveled to Holland to take on PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening as they looked to qualify for the Champions League group stage. Michael Beale’s side were battered 5-1 on the pitch and across the two games with the Dutch side they faced a total of 41 shots!
It’s fair to say that this has been far from ideal preparation for the clash with Celtic and the manner of the defeat to PSV was rather worrying. Celtic look to be in a much better place than Rangers at the moment and we wouldn’t put anyone off backing them here.
We’ve also picked out a three-pronged Bet Builder with the first selection being for James Tavernier to give away two or more fouls. Known more for his goal scoring than his fouls, Tavernier committed two fouls against PSV on Wednesday and three against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership last weekend.
Next up it’s John Lundstram who we are getting behind to give away two or more fouls. The former Sheffield-United midfielder was shown 11 yellow cards in all competitions last season. When it comes to fouls he gave away three against Ross County and two in each of the matches against PSV in the Champions League play-off tie.
Rounding off the trio of players to give away two or more fouls is Matt O’Riley of Celtic. The 22-year-old may have only picked up three bookings in the Scottish Premiership last season, but he averaged well over a foul a game. When these sides met at Celtic Park in September 2022, O’Riley conceded five fouls and combining him with Lundtram and Tavernier to give away two or more in the Old Firm clash pays just north of 10/1 with Paddy Power.
