Premier League Tips for Saturday
Everton vs Tottenham Tip
Everton’s 0-0 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday evening made it just one win in nine matches for the Toffees, and Dyche’s men are firmly in the relegation picture.
Evetrton battled to a point against Fulham but the Cottagers had 19 shots, forced 15 corners and enjoyed 70 per cent possession, so they can count themselves pretty fortunate.
The Toffees do have a relatively strong first XI but they are short in the central midfield area with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes injured and Amadou Onana a doubt.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have won six of their last nine matches and their only two defeats during that period came away at Brighton and against Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Ange Postecoglou saw his side hit three second-half goals to beat Brentford on Wednesday and Spurs should have too much firepower for a weakened Everton outfit.
It could also pay to get long on goals at Goodison Park. Spurs have seen 11 of their last 12 matches go over the 2.5-goal mark with Postecoglou unflinching in his attack-minded and progressive approach.
The reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier in the campaign saw three goals scored and, while Everton have been pretty competitive at Goodison Park this season, their depleted squad conceded twice against relegation rivals Luton in the FA Cup fourth round, which was their latest Merseyside contest.
Brighton vs Crystal Palace Tip
South-east rivals Brighton and Palace renew hostilities at the Amex in a match which has a habit of ending all-square – but may not this time.
Six of the last nine top-flight tussles between these sides have ended in draws, all of them 1-1 draws at that.
Palace will head to the Sussex coast buoyed by Tuesday night's 3-2 win over Sheffield United, but it was a match in which the flashes of genius of Olise and Eze separated an average team from a poor team. And if the bulletins are right, Eze won't be involved at the Amex while Olise is a doubt.
That win was the Eagles' second in 13 matches and they haven't beaten any of the current top eight teams.
They can produce gutsy away efforts – they won 1-0 at Manchester United and came from two goals down to snatch an unlikely 2-2 draw at champions Manchester City.
But the truth is their away form isn't good and Brighton, desperate to make amends for Tuesday's terrible effort at Luton, should hold all the aces.
Burnley vs Fulham Tip
Burnley have the worst home record in the Premier League but they have a chance to upset the odds on Saturday against a Fulham side who have been torrid on their travels.
The Cottagers have not won a top-flight away game since August and have lost each of their last five road trips, while they have scored just nine goals away from home all season.
Burnley have hardly been finding the net with regularity this season, either, with the Turf Moor faithful witnessing only 11 goals in 11 home assignments this term.
Each of the last three league fixtures at Turf Moor have produced two or fewer goals and another low-scoring affair is expected between these two out-of-form sides, making under 2.5 goals an attractive proposition.
Newcastle vs Luton Tip
Newcastle needed Tuesday’s 3-1 win at Aston Villa to boost their hopes of finishing in the European places this season as the victory moved them just three points behind current sixth-placed West Ham ahead of their game on Thursday.
That win was just Eddie Howe’s side’s second away success in the top flight all season as they had been largely relying on their home form to keep them in the top-six hunt.
The Magpies have won seven of their past nine home league matches but recent St James’ Park defeats to Nottingham Forest and Manchester City have been damaging.
Newcastle should prove too good for a Luton side that sits just one place above the relegation zone but the Hatters can play their part on Saturday in what should be an entertaining game.
Sheffield United vs Aston Villa Tip
Aston Villa cannot afford another slip-up if they want to continue to mix it with the title contenders in the Premier League but they have a golden opportunity to get back to winning ways against back-markers Sheffield United.
Villa were on the wrong end of an impressive performance from Newcastle in midweek but should have the quality to end a three-game winless run.
Taking the visitors to win a match in which both teams score may be the best bet on the game as the home side have been among the goals lately and United have scored in four of their seven league defeats at Bramall Lane this season.
The Blades put in another strong effort at Selhurst Park, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes and an open contest seems likely given that their dire position means they can no longer sit back.
Chris Wilder's side have scored 10 goals in their last four games, even though their only win in that time came against League Two Gillingham in the FA Cup.
Both teams have scored in five of Aston Villa's last seven away games in the Premier League while eight of Sheffield United's 11 home league matches have produced three or more goals.
Three of United's last four league games have seen at least four goals scored and that looks a good value bet again for this contest.
