2024 Stayers' Hurdle Tips
Teahupoo heads the Stayers' Hurdle betting market at 6/4 with most betting sites, ahead of Sir Gerhard, Noble Yeats, Crambo, and defending champion Sire Du Berlais.
The 2023 race was an absolute thriller at the end, with 33/1 Sire Du Berlais pulling off a remarkable win at the finish. On that day Teahupoo was beaten by less than a length in what was ultimately a third place finish.
Teahupoo defeated Impaire Et Passe and Ashroe Diamond on his seasonal return in the Hatton's Grace. He goes best fresh and is a deserved favourite for this one.
He is now a 12-year-old but last year's shock 33/1 winner Sire Du Berlais has been trained specifically for this race again and he always comes to life in the spring.
Gordon Elliott's outsider proved his Stayers' success was no fluke when backing it up by landing the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree. On top of that, he was beaten less than a length into third in the Grade 1 Champion Stayers' Hurdle at Punchestown to round off his campaign.
Down the field in the Boyne Hurdle on his seasonal reappearance, that was very much a preparatory outing, so don't be surprised if Sire Du Berlais puts in another huge performance today at Cheltenham.
One at an enormous 50/1 price who could be worthy of a small each-way interest is Paul Gilligan's Buddy One, who could snatch a place if everything falls right for him on the day.
This horse is very hit or miss, and was pulled up in the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown when last seen, but his form around Prestbury Park offers some encouragement.
Third behind Iroko in last season's Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle, he came there travelling like a dream when winning over the Stayers' course and distance in a handicap at the November Meeting.
Buddy One clearly enjoys Cheltenham and this has been his target for some time, so he might surprise a few.
