Nottingham Forest made 22 signings last summer and Steve Cooper spent the campaign trying to gel the squad. Forest’s boss had to compromise his style for survival, a decision that paid dividends, but there is a whiff of deja-vu after the Tricky Trees made 13 summer acquisitions this term.
The calibre of the latest batch of signings dictates another stylistic change, albeit a more attractive one, which has left Forest floundering during the infancy of the campaign.
Now over the quarter way stage, Forest's only victories have come against Sheffield United and Chelsea, they have also picked up points against Luton, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Burnley.
This form, and their average of one point a game, tells you exactly how the club is fairing at the minute and if it wasn’t for an exceptionally poor group of the promoted sides, Cooper’s side may have been in a spot of bother.
Next up is high-flying Aston Villa.
Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Tips
The Villans extended their unbeaten run on home soil to 12 games, while they have not been fairing too bad on the road this campaign either. You can count on one hand their defeats in all competitions and domestically they have only dropped points at Molineux, Anfield and St James’ Park.
Unai Emery’s side have gone off at odds-on on four occasions in the league this season, winning all of those games by an aggregate scoreline of 14-3. The phrase flat track bullies comes to mind.
Ollie Watkins turned provider at the start of this season. It took him six games to break his domestic duck, assisting two in the meantime, but since his goal at Stamford Bridge he has not stopped scoring.
The frontman has scored five in as many league matches and set up another three. He has taken the match ball home twice this campaign, so at 17/2 a brace appeals here.
His side have only failed to score in one of their 16 games this season, and are odds-on to hit the double at the City Ground which is why their talisman appeals.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly.
