Next Huddersfield Manager: Who could replace Neil Warnock?
Huddersfield Town have revealed that veteran boss Neil Warnock will leave the club following Wednesday's Championship clash with Stoke City.
The Terriers have yet to confirm who exactly will replace the 74-year-old, which in turn has sent the Rumour Mill into overdrive.
We've joined the discussion, looking at the different options available to the Yorkshire club.
"We plan to announce the successor by the end of the week," said chief executive officer Jake Edwards.
"Fans will be sad at losing a legend, not just after last season's heroics, but his previous term at the club. But I also feel that the fans deserve and want to know that their club has a plan to get back to the Premier League and is working on that and are putting some deep thoughts into it."
If Huddersfield are after a manager with Championship experience then there are plenty of candidates that are currently twiddling their thumbs in the Job Centre.
Take your pick from this lot: Chris Wilder, Nathan Jones, Darren Moore, Frank Lampard, Dean Smith, Slavisa Jokanovic, Carlos Carvalhal, Sabri Lamouchi, Mick McCarthy, and Leam Richardson.
Of those listed above, Wilder, Jones, and Moore have received particular attention since Warnock's departure was announced.
With Edwards stating that the plan is to get back into the Premier League - Huddersfield are 17th after six matches - Wilder is someone who has successfully achieved this feat with Sheffield United, a club he's been linked with a surprise return to with Paul Heckingbottom the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave.
Wilder is currently seeking a return to the dugout after enduring difficult spells in the Championship at both Middlesbrough and Watford.
Jones has managed in the Premier League, albeit an infamous stint at Southampton last season, during which he lost seven of his eight games and infuriated the fans with his bizarre post-match interviews.
The Welshman does, however, deserve huge credit for the work he did across two spells at Luton, which may well have attracted the Terriers.
Moore has also briefly managed in the Premier League with West Brom - famously beating Man Utd - which was followed by EFL jobs at Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday.
He led the latter to promotion into the Championship last season, only to surprisingly depart in June after contract discussions broke down.
Huddersfield are, of course, no stranger to making surprise managerial appointments, from German Jan Siewert to Scot Mark Fotheringham: both of which went terribly.
Now under the ownership of American businessman Kevin Nagle - who also owns Sacramento Republic Football Club - there have been suggestions that he could look across the pond.
Former Derby boss Wayne Rooney has been managing DC United since July 2022. They are currently 9th in the MLS Eastern Conference, a division in which they finished bottom last season.
American Jesse Marsch has remained out of work since leaving fellow Yorkshire club Leeds in February, while there have been rumours on social media that Jill Ellis is in the frame.
Ellis is a two-time Women's World Cup winner with the United States who is now working as the president of San Diego Wave FC.
The latter would be a historic appointment as Ellis would become the first woman to be handed a permanent managerial job at an English men’s professional club.
Back in July, Hannah Dingley became the first woman to take charge of a professional men's team in English football after she was named caretaker of Forest Green Rovers. She held the role for two weeks before the club appointed David Horseman as their new full-time boss.
