Newcastle vs. Brentford Betting Tips: Two bets for Saturday evening at St James' Park
In a bid to break their losing streak ahead of Champions League action, Newcastle United host Brentford at St James' Park in a highly anticipated Premier League clash this Saturday evening, live on Sky Sports Main Event with a 5pm kick off.
Dean Woodward brings us his best bets for the game.
Eddie Howe's side faced a challenging 3-1 defeat against Brighton before the international break, where 18-year-old Evan Ferguson's stunning hat-trick overshadowed Callum Wilson's late consolation.
Newcastle's early-season optimism following their 5-1 demolition of Aston Villa now feels distant, as they aim to turn the tide against Brentford.
Newcastle's recent form, with just two wins in their last nine league matches, leaves them in 14th place. They face a tough European group featuring Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan, and Howe must reverse their alarming trend of poor results.
There are concerns for the hosts as key players nurse injuries. Sandro Tonali, their marquee summer signing, is doubtful for the match against Brentford due to a muscular issue and is uncertain for Milan's visit. He joins Willock, Krafth, Manquillo and the possibly injured Botman. In the midfield, Anderson and Longstaff may contend for a spot if Tonali is unavailable, while Hall could make his Newcastle debut.
Brentford come into this game unbeaten in four matches this season, showcasing their offensive prowess, even without their star-man Ivan Toney.
However, the Bees have struggled against Newcastle in the Premier League, failing to win in all four previous meetings. Brentford have started the season well sitting in 8th place and haven’t tasted league defeat since back in May in a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool.
Dasilva is recovering from a severe thigh problem, and Baptiste is out long-term due to a shoulder dislocation. Damsgaard, nursing an adductor concern, might be available, and Maupay returns to bolster their attack, with Mbeumo, Schade, and Wissa continuing their offensive trio for now.
Newcastle vs Brentford Tips
With Brentford starting the season well and Newcastle seeming very hit or miss, I have combined a few angles together to form a nice even money bet builder.
Under 2.5 offsides for Newcastle has landed 18 times across their last 20 matches, with Brentford also rarely conceding offsides (three), especially in games where Brentford will see less of the ball, which I expect to be the case on Saturday evening.
Newcastle averaged 16 tackles per game last season which saw them ranked just 15th in the Premier League, with the same average across four games this season so far.
Tackles against Brentford also aren’t that great. Across their last 28 games, their opposition have only hit 18 or more on six occasions.
In a game I expect to be dominated by Newcastle, I would expect these lines to go under, with Newcastle managing to get a result infront of a home crowd.
The Brentford full-back Aaron Hickey has started all four games this season for the Bees and looks set to have a very busy evening up against a rejuvenated Anthony Gordon.
Hickey has been booked twice already this season making two fouls in both of those games and there's a great chance he goes into the book yet again against Newcastle.
Gordan has started the season as a bit of a menace down that left-hand side, drawing a foul in all of five of his starts.
The most recent foul was by James Milner who came on late in Gameweek Four when they faced Brighton, who looked to get stuck into Gordon straight away, going into the book.
That’s now three right-backs that have been booked against Newcastle this season already, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Matty Cash being the other two culprits.
