New Zealand vs. Afghanistan Betting Tips: Two Predictions for Wednesday's Cricket World Cup match
New Zealand and Afghanistan both enter this match hoping to build off impressive wins last time out.
New Zealand enjoyed an 8 wicket victory over Bangladesh, whilst Afghanistan pulled off a shock 69 run win over England. That result was Afghanistan’s second-ever win in the competition and one of the biggest upsets in the tournament's history.
Here at BettingOdds.com, we preview the clash between New Zealand and Afghanistan, with Andy Francis picking out his two best bets for the match…
New Zealand vs Afghanistan Tips
New Zealand come into the game as heavy favourites, but Afghanistan will be primed to spring another surprise as they bid for unlikely qualification.
The group stage match, taking place at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, could see New Zealand move to the top of the group if they claim their fourth win in a row.
These two sides have met twice before, under the ODI format, with New Zealand running out comprehensive winners in both. As Afghanistan showed against England, though, they could provide a stumbling block. New Zealand enter this match as short as 1/4, whilst Afghanistan can be found priced at 3/1.
New Zealand have been in great form in the tournament, so far, scoring 853 runs in three matches.
Mitchell has performed well in two of those matches - he didn’t need to set up to the crease against England - scoring 89 against Bangladesh and 48 against Netherlands, making the 2/1 offer with BoyleSports for him to hit the half-century great value.
Conway, who sits at the top of the order for New Zealand, showed his class against England, hitting 152 runs including 22 boundaries. He followed that up with 45 (vs Bangladesh) and 32 (vs Netherlands).
Those stats give Conway the second highest batting total so far, as well as the most fours.
Finding him to be Man of the Match at such a high price - 13/2 with Sky Bet - is a nice surprise and, if he can open the betting quickly, he could be the highest run scorer again.
New Zealand’s wickets have been spread around well, with Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry each taking eight wickets, which gives a bit more credence to the man of the match being awarded to someone at the crease
This could be a huge match for New Zealand in their pursuit of knockout qualification, giving them a perfect record after four matches, but Afghanistan will be determined to prove that their victory over England was no fluke.
