Manchester City v Liverpool tips: Bet on Salah to score in search of third Golden Boot

Over the previous few weeks many of us had predicted that Manchester City v Liverpool would be where Jurgen Klopp would have claimed the title, but with City losing to Chelsea last week it means Pep Guardiola’s side will have to give the scousers a guard of honour as they take to the pitch tomorrow evening.
Having a look into the betting for the match, BetVictor are 11/10 for a City win which coincidentally is the first time in almost three and a half years that they have been odds against to win a match at the Etihad. The draw can be backed at 3/1 with Betfair whilst Liverpool are the biggest price they have been all season to take all three points at 5/2 with Betvictor.
The title may have already been decided but I still believe both teams will be well up for this one. Klopp will want to prove why his side are Champions and lay down a gauntlet for next season. I don’t see either manager resting any of their star names for this one and I think this could be a really entertaining watch, with the game being shown on SkySports Premier League kicking off at 20:15. Sergio Aguero is set to miss out once again for City after his injury sustained against Arsenal in the first game after the restart while James Milner is also a doubt after coming off the Merseyside derby.
It’s also worth mentioning that at the time of writing, when looking at next season’s Premier League winner odds that Betfair have City at 4/5 favourites to win the title with Liverpool being given a 38% chance of regaining their crown, priced at 13/8. If Klopp’s side pick up a positive result here I’d expect that price to disappear with it currently being the stand out top price and The Reds being as short as 5/4 with firms such as Skybet.
I’ve picked out three Manchester City v Liverpool tips and hopefully we can find some more winners after 9/4, 11/8, and two 11/10 selections have won in the last five days.
This one looks a pretty tough one to predict in terms of result and therefore for my first selection I’ve opted for a shots on target double made up of two of the most prolific players in the Premier League.
Betfair have boosted both Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling to have 1 or more shots on target to 2/1 from 6/4. Mane has scored 15 times in the league this season and impressively 50% of his shots have been on target in comparison to Mo Salah with 42%. On average Mane averages 1.1 shots on target every game in the league and I’m happy to have him as part of this 2/1 double.
After Sergio Aguero nobody in the Manchester City side has averaged more shots per game than Raheem Sterling this season. He scored a cracker from the edge of the area in the FA Cup tie with Newcastle at the weekend and with him averaging bang on one shot on target per game this season I’m expecting him to land one between the posts against Liverpool tomorrow.
Having a browse around at the prices I can see that Coral have got this priced at 13/10 which gives plenty of appeal to the 2/1 that is now being offered from the original 6/4 by those good lads at Betfair.
My second selection for the match is Alexander Arnold to have 1 or more shots on target at the price of 3/1 with PaddyPower. Young Trent has enjoyed a fantastic season in all aspects. His forward play has been sublime, his defending as solid as ever and off the pitch he has been making a difference to those less fortunate in the City of Liverpool.
His textbook free kick nestled in the top corner in the 4-0 win against Crystal Palace last time out and being Liverpool’s first choice set-piece taker is a big part of why I’ve been backing him to have a shot on target lately.
In total, Trent has managed a remarkable 39 shots in the Premier League this season with only the front three of Firmino, Salah and Mane having taken more at the club this campaign. In recent years games between Manchester City and Liverpool have been quite fiery and I’m expecting plenty of fouls and free-kicks at the Etihad tomorrow which could carve a route in for this bet to land.
As always I’ve picked out something at an eye watering price for those of you who fancy a longshot. At 66/1 with PaddyPower I’ve gone for Kevin De Bruyne to have two shots on target, Mo Salah to score, and Rodridgo to be carded.
For me, Kevin De Bruyne has been Manchester City’s best player this season and with 16 assists and ten goals in the league this season it would be no surprise to see him crowned PFA player of the year for which he is 7/2 to do so.
Birthday boy Kevin was on the scoresheet for the second time in four days at Newcastle on Sunday, converting from the penalty spot after his sumptuous free kick against Chelsea 72 hours prior. He’s let off eleven shots in his last three starts and with him being on both penalties and free kicks this adds another string to our bow for making a case here of him completing two shots on target.
Next up I’ve gone for Mo Salah to get himself on the scoresheet. He’s just two behind Jamie Vardy and his Premier League top scorer odds are now just 7/2 as he bids to win the Golden Boot for a third time. Salah has let off ten more shots than anyone else in the league this season with 101 in total and with myself and the bookmakers who have both teams to score as short as 4/9, both thinking that there will be goals at The Etihad, I’m happy to have Salah to find the net here as part of this 66/1 shot.
Finally I’ve gone for Rodrigo to be carded who should start after coming on from the bench against Newcastle at the weekend. I’ve backed him a couple of times since the restart and have a good feeling for it dropping against Liverpool. He’s been booked eight times in total this season, more than any other player at City and with no Fernandinho for this one I see him doing a lot of the dirty work. He’s one who’s not afraid to give away a cynical foul and was also booked in the reverse fixture at Anfield in November. Let’s hope we see a repeat of that in this one to bring home this 66/1 Same game multi which is priced as short as 28/1 with Coral. As always, enjoy the game, and please remember to gamble responsibly.
