Copenhagen did give Pep Guardiola’s side a scare when they equalised during the first half in the Danish capital but goals from Bernardo Silva and the in-form Phil Foden saw City build up a healthy lead before the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
The Danes face an uphill battle in Manchester on Wednesday and it would take one of the great Champions League upsets to prevent City progressing to the quarter-finals.
Team news
Starting with the hosts, City appear to have got through their early season injury misfortune, with now only England international Jack Grealish out on the sidelines with a groin issue.
Considering their two-goal advantage, Guardiola might be tempted to shuffle the pack after his side’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at the weekend.
The likes of Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic will both be pushing for starting roles for Wednesday’s game.
As for the visitors, Copenhagen have four first-team players unavailable through injury, with Lukas Lerager, Theo Sander, Davit Khocholava and Viktor Claesson all sidelined.
Emil Hojlund, the brother of Manchester United striker Rasmus, is also an injury doubt and is touch and go to make the game at the Etihad Stadium.
- Predicted Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Rodri; Foden, Alvarez, Doku; Haaland.
- Predicted FC Copenhagen XI: Grabara; Jelert, Vavro, McKenna, Diks; Goncalves, Falk, Mattsson; Elyounoussi, Larsson, Achouri.
Man City vs Copenhagen Tips
Since winning their maiden Champions League title last season with victory over Inter Milan in the final, City have gone on to win all of their seven games in Europe this term.
While their winning record has been flawless, they have only managed to keep one clean sheet in that time.
It would be little surprise to see Copenhagen get on the scoresheet on Wednesday, against a City defence that has shown its frailties at times this season.
However, given their strong form in Europe and the strength in depth at their disposal, it’s hard to see City not coming out on top on the night to progress to the quarter-finals.
There had been some pressure mounting on Erling Haaland after some below-par performances since his return from injury, however, Haaland swiftly quietened any critics with a sensational five-goal haul against Luton in the FA Cup, followed by a late goal in last weekend's 3-1 over Man Utd.
Haaland now has 28 goals in 31 matches in all competitions this season, including five in the Champions League. The Norwegian has bagged braces twice already in the Europe this season and is worth backing to score two or more goals against Copenhagen in this one.
