The first of those is Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella. Only Marcelo Brozovic has collected more yellow cards this season for the Nerazzurri, with six in the league and a further three in the Champions League.
Taking a look back at Barella’s foul totals, he gave away two in each of the semi-final matches against AC Milan in this competition. He has cleared this line of 2+ in four of his last five starts with foul totals of 2,2,1,2,2.
Next up it’s Jack Grealish. It’s worth noting that Grealish actually has collected eight yellow cards for club and country this season. He has a tendency to pick up those in bigger games, with two against Arsenal in the league, as well as against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.
Against Manchester United in the FA Cup final last weekend, Grealish committed four fouls. The 27-year-old has given away at least one in his last five starts with totals of: 1,1,1,2,4. With a treble on the line here it would be no surprise to see him rack up a couple in a game of this magnitude.
Former Manchester United man Matteo Darmian may have a little extra incentive to prevent City claiming the treble being a former Red Devil. Darmian should start the game on the right side of a back-three meaning he should be dragged out to help deal with the trickery of Jack Grealish.
Darmian has given away two or more fouls twice already in the knockout stages of the Champions League this season, including in the semi-final against AC Milan. Inter will be doing everything to stay in this game as long as possible and we can envisage Darmian being a little heavy handed with both Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish.
