Ipswich vs Man City Prediction, Lineups and Odds: Attractive 14/1 double this afternoon

Ipswich Town welcome Man City to Portman Road this afternoon in the Premier League, which can be watched live at 4.30pm on Sky Sports.

Ipswich's recent bright spell was halted by Brighton in the week, while City capitulated in the closing stages of their match against Brentford, letting a two goal lead slip in the final eight minutes.

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich are the likeliest side of the promoted trio to remain in the Premier League. The Tractor Boys have achieved 16 points this term from 21 matches. There’s still a long way to go and plenty of points to earn. Ipswich were beaten comfortably at the Etihad despite taking an early lead.

Manchester City’s title hopes are perhaps over, priced around 25/1 to win the Premier League for a fifth consecutive season. Pep Guardiola’s side trail league leaders Liverpool by 12 points and Arne Slot’s men have a game in hand.

The current holders dropped two points at Brentford midweek as Wissa and Norgaard scored in the final 10 minutes to cancel Phil Foden’s brace. City have now failed to win 11 of their 21 Premier League matches.

Man City are the favourites, which comes as no surprise. Ipswich looked well off the pace on Thursday night when they were defeated by Brighton. McKenna’s men recorded five shots and managed a lowly 0.28xG in their 2-0 defeat. A reaction is needed, but I’m not sure they’ll have much joy on Sunday afternoon. Ipswich have won once in 11 Premier League games at Portman Road and have left empty-handed on six occasions.

Erling Haaland scored 16 goals in this campaign, a figure only bettered by Mo Salah. The Norwegian bagged three times when these sides met in August, and I’m confident the forward can extend his tally here. Haaland is no bigger than 8/13 to find the back of the net. Combine that with a City win, and we create an appealing price of 10/11.

The gulf in class between the two sides is significant. Ipswich’s performance against Brighton makes me want to back against them. Liam Delap was kept quiet, and Brighton did well to frustrate the impressive youngster. City have struggled defensively for a hefty amount of time, but they’re still a good team and should arrive in a confident mood.

Dara O’Shea has been carded five times this season, including twice in his previous three outings. Whether the Irishman is deployed as a right-back or on the right side of a back three, he has a great chance of receiving a caution. Manchester City’s wide players are fast and direct. Savinho is likely to operate on the left wing, whilst Doku should play a part at some point during the 90. Jack Grealish has played six minutes of Premier League football across City’s last three matches.

Liam Delap is a man full of confidence. He’s bagged eight times for the Premier League newcomers this term and isn’t afraid of a battle. Ipswich’s talisman has committed 41 fouls this term, that’s 2.40 per 90. The 21-year-old has been carded seven times this term, which includes four in his last six.

City are likely to dominate possession, which could infuriate Delap. The man in question was once a Manchester City player and he may have a point to prove and will be eager to stamp his authority on the game. Delap committed four fouls in the reverse fixture.

Ipswich are without a number of players, including Sammie Szmodics and Conor Chaplin, while the on-loan Kalvin Phillips is unable to play today.

It seems unlikely that Kyle Walker will return for Man City, despite the club's injury woes, with Ruben Dias, Oscar Bobb, and Rodri all out, although John Stones could return.
