Independiente del Valle vs Boca Juniors Tips
Boca Juniors are one of the giants of South American club football but they have endured a tough start to the season domestically and this trip to Ecuador looks a big ask for the Argentine outfit.
Independiente Del Valle were exceptional at their Estadio Banco Guayaquil home in Quito during the group stages of the Libertadores before dropping into this competition, overcoming Boca’s league rivals San Lorenzo 2-0 and seeing off Uruguay’s Liverpool Montevideo 2-1.
The Ecuadorian outfit are known as ‘El Matagigantes’, or the Giant Killers, and they may live up to that moniker here as they can see off Boca without conceding.
Independiente were incredibly unlucky not to claim a famous home win over Brazilian big guns Palmeiras in the group stages, ultimately going down 3-2 despite dominating, and against LM they conceded despite facing just one shot on target.
The hosts have two clean sheets in their last three games and when Boca do lose on the road recently they have gone down without scoring as the Buenos Aires side have drawn blanks in four of their last five away losses.
Boca have been poor travellers in the early stages of the Argentine league season with two defeats in three trips, winning once against bottom club Central Cordoba. They also managed just one road win in the group stages despite having what seemed to be a favourable draw, and have failed to score in six of their last 15 away games.
Independiente attacking midfielder Kendry Paez, who will join Chelsea in July next year, looks an interesting option at 3/1 in the anytime scorer market.
Paez scored once in four games for Ecuador at the Copa America and had a goal and two assists in the Libertadores groups.
With Bolanos suspended, he could prove to be his side’s key threat in attack.
