In the money: The five most profitable sides to bet on in this season's Premier League

Betting on football might not be on the cards at the moment with the recent outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, which means that it’s a perfect time to reflect on the season so far and think about which sides have been the most profitable to back on a weekly basis in the top-flight.
This list is all based on a £10 bet, placed on the respective team to win in all of their league games this season.
5. Manchester United - £67.40 in profit
Man Utd have claimed most of their profit from doing the double of Man City in the league. The Red Devils were priced at 8/1 to beat their city rivals ahead of their 2-1 victory at the Etihad back in December. A penalty from Marcus Rashford and a cute finish from Martial at the near post secured Solskjaer’s side a huge win against the reigning champions.
A calamitous performance from Ederson at Old Trafford meant Martial brought his team another win a few weeks back. Betting £10 on those two games would have meant you brought home just shy of £150 profit. United are enjoying a decent bit of form at the moment, with the addition of Bruno Fernandes seemingly revitalising the team and uplifting spirits at Old Trafford, this has meant their figure has stayed in the positives despite a shocking start to the season.
4. Burnley - £84.40 in profit
Before the season got brought to an abrupt halt, Burnley were unbeaten in five games. Though they are right in the middle of the table in 10th-place, they actually have the same amount of wins as Tottenham and Sheffield Utd this season. Indeed, they have lost 12 games this term, which is why they don’t find themselves any higher in the division.
Two big priced wins came in the space of four days for Burnley, which kickstarted Sean Dyche’s recent run of form - in turn landing the Englishman the latest Premier League Manager of the Month award. A 2-1 win over Leicester (priced at 3/1 for the win) back in January was followed by a 2-0 win over Man United, thanks largely to a Jay Rodriguez wonder strike. The bookies had them at 15/2 for that win at Old Trafford; betting £10 on those two games alone would have netted you £100.
3. Liverpool - £101.70 in profit
Now it’s no secret that Liverpool would have netted you a fair bit of profit this season. Since we’re basing this on a win stake and considering the Reds have only failed to win two matches, you’re going to be in the money, aren’t you? They’ve been odds on in nearly every game they’ve played in the Premier League this season and one of the rare times they weren’t was against Man City at Anfield. It was still relatively early days back then, so the bookies priced City up as 8/5 favourites for that clash. Because of this, there was actually a good bit of value to be found in Liverpool’s price - who found themselves as the betting ‘underdog’ at odds of 9/5 for the first and last time this season. The only other times that Liverpool have found themselves at even money or greater is against Chelsea and Leicester, while a limited number of bookies had them priced up at evens against Man Utd back in October.
2. Newcastle United - £158.90 in profit
Although the Magpies are currently in 13th in the Premier League table, Newcastle have been one of the teams that have rewarded the punter’s loyalty this season. Steve Bruce’s side have more often than not entered their games as the underdogs, but have proved bettors wrong this season - reaching just as many wins as Arsenal, who are four places above them.
In Newcastle’s last game against Southampton, the bookies had them priced up at around 4/1 for the win, which they obtained with relative ease against the south coast outfit, beating them 2-1 at St Mary’s. Their biggest win of the season came from their trip to Spurs’ new stadium, though, where their new man Joelinton secured them a 1-0 victory. The bookies had them priced at 10/1 for the away win on that day at the beginning of the campaign. Fun fact: Newcastle have been above even money in every one of their wins in the Prem this season.
1. Wolverhampton Wanderers - £181.60 in profit
Although Wolves have the joint most draws in the Premier League this season (13), they find themselves at the very top of this list. Winning only 10 games and being in profit of a whopping £181.60 is somewhat of an impressive feat. The West Midlanders have been known to turn it on against the top teams in their recent Premier League campaigns; becoming one of the few sides to complete a league double over Pep Guardiola has certainly helped that figure.
In their first game against Man City this season, Wolves travelled to the Etihad and claimed a surprising 2-0 victory - they were priced at a monstrous 20/1 to do so. For the reverse fixture at Molineux back in late December, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were priced at 6/1 and won 3-2. Victories such as a 7/5 win away at Bournemouth sees the profit ticking over, but it’s the two big triumphs over City that really carry Wolves over the line this season so far.
20. ‘Honourable’ mention, Arsenal - minus £124.20 (out of pocket)
After talking through the top five, we’ve had to go right down to the bottom of the table to see who was the worst team to bet on this season. You’d be down a shocking £124 if you’d have placed a tenner on Arsenal to win every one of their games in the Premier League season.
The Gunners have failed on a number of occasions to get points at the Emirates this season, losing to Brighton at home when they were ½, while it was the same story when they hosted Southampton and drew 2-2.
