Hull vs. Coventry Betting Tips: The Tigers to add to Cov's woes
In addition to Friday night's televised Championship affair between Southampton and Leicester, we have the battle of the Cities as Hull welcome Coventry to the MKM Stadium at 7:45pm.
Neither of these teams enter Friday's contest without a loss on this season's record, but Liam Rosenior will be the happier of the two managers having guided his side to three wins and one draw from their opening five matches. Hull spent big over the summer to transform themselves into promotion contenders and the results achieved by this team are reflecting those ambitions.
Between injury woes and the sales of two key players, last season's play-off finalists Coventry may have to endure a rather unspectacular campaign. Mark Robins' side have won just one from their opening five and the arrival of 11 new signings means that the Sky Blues could face a lengthy adjustment period.
Amazingly, the visiting Coventry are established as the slight bookmaker favourites in this match at 8/5, while the in-form Tigers are set around the 7/4 mark. And for those wishing to back the draw, 5/2 is on offer with a number of top betting sites.
Hull vs Coventry Tips
Despite what the bookies think, we're siding with Hull in this Friday night clash. The Tigers have lost just one of their last 14 home games, with that single defeat coming against Vincent Kompany's Championship winners Burnley last season.
Before the international break, Liam Rosenior's men brought an end to Leicester's immaculate start to life back in the division with a 1-0 away win in the East Midlands.
As stated, Coventry have won only one of their opening five matches against a Middlesbrough team who have earned just one point so far and sit rock bottom of the table.
Without the talismanic presence of Viktor Gyokeres or Gus Hamer, Cov's frustrations are expected to continue for a little while longer, especially with this new-look Hull team clicking into place so suddenly.
Opting for the "0.0 Asian Handicap" line gives us that same returned stake safety blanket as "Draw No Bet" does should Coventry make it four draws from their opening six league fixtures.
In Ozan Tufan's continued absence, summer recruit Aaron Connolly should get the nod again to lead the line for Hull following a similar forward reshuffle displayed in the starting XI vs Leicester.
Last term, the 23-year-old returned home early from a loan spell at Venezia and immediately joined Hull City until the end of the campaign. He made seven appearances for the club across two competitions, netting a brace in a 3-0 home win vs QPR less than a month after signing. A toe injury sustained in mid February then ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
He's been around since 2017 but has only made 80 combined appearances for five different clubs during this time as niggling injuries have blighted his development.
Connolly scored his first goal as a permanent Hull City player in an 11-minute cameo against Sheffield Wednesday. He then followed that up by securing the win over Blackburn Rovers with a 22-minute brace from the bench.
The Irish forward has been a live-wire in front of goal, letting off at least two shots in four of his five appearances and hitting the target at least once in every single match minus an 18-minute introduction in the opener with Norwich.
Both of Coventry's clean sheets have come in matches played at home, so the visit to East Yorkshire is an opportunity for Aaron Connolly to impress Rosenior from the off.
