Grand National Tips
Tip 1: Three Card Brag each-way @ 25/1
Gordon Elliott has won this great race three times already, with Silver Birch in 2007 and then famously with Tiger Roll in 2018 and 2019.
The Irishman has assembled another strong team this year, with five runners in the mix, and the most appealing of them is Three Card Brag, who has the assistance of UK champion jockey-elect Sean Bowen in the saddle.
Three Card Brag has always been touted as a horse laden with plenty of stamina and he was fourth in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham as a novice over hurdles in 2023.
Last season over fences he was winless in three but placed behind the likes of Corbetts Cross, Monty's Star and Spillane's Tower - all quality staying chasers.
He won a Navan beginners contest over 3m in January on his second start over fences this season and then finished third behind stablemates Better Days Ahead and Stellar Story in a Grade 2 over the same C&D.
That duo shone a positive light on that form with their efforts at the Cheltenham Festival and this improving eight-year-old could relish the stamina test offered to him now with just 10st 5lb on his back.
Tip 2: Threeunderthrufive each-way @ 50/1 with bet365
Paul Nicholls doesn't quite have the ammunition of days gone by, but the Ditcheat handler has been in good form this spring and he has some rock-solid candidates in his five-strong assault as he looks to add to his 2012 Grand National win with Neptune Collonges.
Threeunderthrufive is another horse for whom this race has long been touted. He finished fourth in the 2023 Scottish Grand National and is not expected to be undone by stamina requirements now.
He's run six times since that Ayr contest two years ago and has been in frame in all bar one of those outings.
He won the Swinley Handicap Chase at Ascot last season and was only denied a head by the smart Victtorino in the defence of that contest in February.
Nicholls has a fondness for this horse and his National claims and Harry Skelton is a fine ally in the saddle. Threeunderthrufive is one that currently looks overpriced given his suitability for this examination.
Tip 3: Beauport each-way @ 28/1 with bet365
Another trainer with previous in the race is Nigel Twiston-Davies, the Naunton handler winning with Earth Summit (1998) and Bindaree (2002). Beauport goes for him this time, with son Sam Twiston-Davies in the saddle.
The nine-year-old was last spotted over fences winning the Berkshire National at Ascot over 3m5½f in November and has twice since run with credit in graded races over hurdles at Ascot and Haydock.
He's got a career-high rating over fences to defy now, but 11st 1lb is manageable and last year's Midlands Grand National hero will savour the four-and-a-quarter-mile journey around Aintree.
