Golden Boot Odds: Marcus Rashford amongst the favourites with Gakpo and Morata also being backed in

The group stages are over! To say it’s been carnage is an understatement. There have been upsets galore and we’ve also had some individuals step up massively in the early stages which has led to quite an interesting Golden Boot race. We’ve provided an updated view of the market following the end of the groups.
Market Movers In Golden Boot Odds
Starting off with England’s new top scorer, Marcus Rashford! The United forward was as big as 150/1 to be the 2022 World Cup top scorer before the Wales game. Following a stunning brace involving a direct free-kick and a scrumptious solo goal, he has been backed into as short as 10/1 with some firms to be the Golden Boot winner.
He’s also been backed into under even money to be England’s top scorer in Qatar and you’d think he’s going to be starting more often following that performance. He’s now installed as the fifth favourite in the top scorer market and if England are going to go far in this tournament, they’ll be hoping for a few more from him.
Going into the tournament there was a fair bit of hype surrounding Cody Gakpo, well like Ozzy Osbourne said ALLL ABOOOAAARD, because the hype train has officially set off! Gakpo is now Netherlands’ leading scorer in Qatar with three goals which also buts him at the top of the top scorer list alongside Marcus Rashford, Kylian Mbappe and Alvaro Morata. Gakpo was about 80/1 to be the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup and he is now 10/1 which makes him the fourth favourite. At the moment he looks like Netherlands’ only consistent source of goals and he’s guaranteed to be starting every meaningful game now.
Another player that has seen their price smashed in is Alvaro Morata who scored a brace against Costa Rica and a goal against Japan. He’s now overtaken Ferran Torres as Spain’s top scorer and even though his nation was momentarily being knocked out of the competition by Costa Rica, they remain one of the nations that are fancied to go quite far. Spain’s main source of goals is yet to be properly determined as many thought Ferran Torres would kick on from that Costa Rica performance, but now it seems like Morata is the main man. Some firms are as short as 7/1 on Morata, the average price seems to be about 10/1 though.
Market Drifters In Golden Boot Odds
That’s about it for the players that are getting backed in, Mbappe remains a solid favourite at 3/1 with Messi and Richarlison. Speaking of Richarlison following his opening game brace he is yet to record a shot on target since his two goals. He still remains as the third favourite but one bookmaker has priced him at 13/1 following two blanks.
Another player on the drift is Olivier Giroud who has also not recorded a goal since his opening game brace and has since drifted to 33/1 to be the top scorer in Qatar. You’d have to fancy Mbappe to be France’s main source of goals now with the way he is playing and his brace the other day.
Enner Valencia has also unfortunately been knocked out of the competition so he is no longer in the running, but before that he was around the 28/1 mark. Another drifter is Cristiano Ronaldo who couldn’t, unfortunately, claim Bruno Fernandes’ goal as his own and only has the sole goal to his name, he is now around 40/1 to win the Golden Boot.
We’ve seen some crazy action this World Cup so it really is anyone's for the taking now, anyone for football coming home and Marcus Rashford winning the Golden Boot?
