Gennaro Gattuso to Tottenham is off: Where on earth do Spurs go from here?

Gennaro Gattuso catapulted into contention for the Tottenham job on Thursday following a bewildering turn-of-events, which saw Spurs snub Paolo Fonseca and transfer their focus over to the Italian, who had started the day manager of Fiorentina.
Gattuso, whose stint at the helm of La Viola then came to an end after 23 days, was subsequently installed as the 4/9 frontrunner in the newly opened next Tottenham manager market.
Gattuso’s controversial comments on sexism and racism were swiftly brought back into the public eye, which saw the creation of the #NoToGattuso hashtag.
It's not yet known whether Spurs took note of the overwhelmingly negative reaction or decided against the appointment due other reasons, but either way we now know they will not be selecting Gattuso as Jose Mourinho’s successor following the revelation from The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Friday morning:
“Conversations took place between Tottenham and the 43-year-old former AC Milan and Napoli manager — as they have done with numerous contenders — however Gattuso will not be getting the job.”
So, where on earth do Tottenham go from here?
Could they go back to Fonseca (14/1) with their tail between their legs? A move for the Portuguese coach appeared done and dusted on Thursday morning, but after Spurs suddenly switched their focus to Gattuso the ex-Roma boss will undoubtedly be wounded - and probably very embarrassed - by the abrupt pie-to-the-face.
The market is still jam-packed with managers that Spurs have been frequently linked with during various stages of their frustrating two month search, including Ajax’s Erik ten Hag (14/1), Brighton’s Graham Potter, and Roberto Martinez (both 10/1) who is currently leading Belgium at the Euros.
Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino remain in the betting too, although we obviously know that either will be getting the job, unless there's a staggering turnaround, which admittedly wouldn’t be a huge shock anymore.

The former Lille manager who won the French title last term, Christophe Galtier, is available at an intriguing 20/1. Eddie Howe, 14/1, is still searching for a new job a year after leaving Bournemouth, while the 20/1-priced Scott Parker is reportedly set to leave Fulham.
Nuno Santo, 16/1, has been the favourite for the Tottenham, Crystal Palace, and Everton jobs but now looks like he’ll get none of them.
Joachim Low (20/1) will be a free agent after the Euros, although his reputation has dipped somewhat in the last few years.
Zinedine Zidane is a 40/1 outsider, as is Everton-linked Rafa Benitez, while Gareth Southgate can be found at 50/1, with Ryan Mason at 55/1.
