There are a quartet of UEFA Nations League matches taking place on Wednesday evening across the continent with Wales vs the Netherlands looking like the pick of the fixtures. Here at BettingOdds.com we’ve put together our best picks and combined them into an acca. At the time of writing, the 4-fold pays best with bookmaker Unibet at 12/1.
Netherlands to beat Wales
We are kicking off this 12/1 poke with the Netherlands to beat Wales in Cardiff. There may be somewhat of a hangover for the Welsh squad after the highs of reaching their first World Cup in 64 years on Sunday. Plenty of changes are expected from Rob Page, with many of the second-string set to start from the off.
The Netherlands put in a brilliant performance when turning Belgium over 4-1 in Brussels on Friday night and they are expected to field another strong side as they visit the Millenium Stadium. Louis van Gaal’s men are unbeaten in ten matches in all formats and with Memphis Depay having 13 goals in his last nine Internationals and Steven Bergwijn five in his last five, they have an attack that is finding the net for fun at the moment.
Scotland to beat Armenia
Next up we’re heading north of the border as Scotland face Armenia. We don’t think this will be an easy victory for the Scots as the 1/3 in the Match Result market suggests, but we do think they will come out on top against Armenia. Prior to their defeat against the Ukraine, Scotland were on a streak of eight unbeaten winning six of those. Armenia were thrashed 9-0 in a friendly by Norway back in March and despite their narrow victory in the sweltering heat over The Republic of Ireland on Saturday, we fancy Steve Clarke’s men to come away with the points.
Republic of Ireland vs Ukraine - Under 2.5 goals
As mentioned above, the Republic of Ireland were beaten 1-0 by Armenia last weekend. It was a really poor showing from Stephen Kenny’s side who would have fancied themselves to take at least a point from the match. The blistering heat during that game may have taken a lot out of these players and with Ukraine fresh off the disappointment of not making the World Cup, we are expecting a slow tempo and a low scoring affair here. Backing under 2.5 goals looks the wise play at the Aviva Stadium.
Belgium vs Poland - Draw
Rounding off our picks on Wednesday is the game between Belgium and Poland to be a draw. The hosts will be without talisman Romelu Lukaku, after he went off in the first half with an injury against the Netherlands in the 4-1 defeat last Friday. Belgium looked off the pace for large parts and the team mentality seemed to follow on from the comments from Kevin de Bruyne saying the Nations League is “just glorified friendlies”. Poland got their campaign off to a good start with a win over Wales and they have only tasted defeat once in their last ten. All things considered we fancy Poland to grind out a point against a demotivated Belgium side.
