Fantasy Football Tips: Four FPL players to consider for Gameweek 15
There is a quick turnaround for FPL managers as the Festive madness begins in the Premier League. The dust has hardly settled on Gameweek 14, but on Tuesday night at 18:00 the deadline for Gameweek 15 will be here! We give our advice for Fantasy managers here...
Gameweek 14 Review
An action packed Gameweek 14 saw managers average out at 54 points in the FPL Universe. The highlight was undoubtedly Sunday, with five games seeing both teams score and some huge scores posted individually, none more so than goal grabber and match winner for Liverpool Trent Alexander Arnold. The right back extraordinaire finished up with 13 points (goal, assist, 3 bonus but lost a point for conceding 3) to delight his managers and further pay back those who have kept the faith with the £8m asset; the game's most expensive defender.
Elsewhere, some budget Burnley defenders finally came good with clean sheets and attacking returns (Beyer and Taylor) against a hapless Sheffield United, who look set to part company with Paul Heckingbottom imminently.
After much doubt over his fitness, Ollie Watkins punished his sellers with an 11 point haul which included the last ditch equaliser at Bournemouth.
Enzo Fernandez bagged his first Premier League goal and enjoyed it so much he grabbed another in the same game as Chelsea overcame Brighton 3-2. This 14 point haul was welcome for his owners, but more players were frustrated to see his midfield teammate and budget enabler Cole Palmer benched by Poch.
The Gameweek was wrapped up with a Premier League classic which had a bit of everything: Man City 3-3 Spurs. Anyone still holding a City defender (ahem) will surely be sick of the champions' lax attitude towards clean sheets, although the bigger news for FPL players is the potential punishment Erling Haaland could face if cited for his hilariously meme worthy tantrum in the furore that surrounded the end of the game.
If he is banned, plenty will have difficult captaincy decisions in the coming weeks.
Goalkeeper - Martin Dubravka (£3.9m) vs Everton (A)
This is not a normal section for our FPL gameweek previews, however extraordinary circumstances warrant extraordinary action!
Nick Pope is looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he dislocated his shoulder in the closing stages of Newcastle's dominant 1-0 win over a hapless Manchester United.
The Toon have some decent fixtures coming up and, providing they don't do something insane like sign free agent David De Gea, Martin Dubravka (£3.9m) looks set to deputise in goal.
If the pennies are pinching for FPL managers, after all every £0.1m feels like gold dust, Dubravka is a no brainer signing this week to replace the second keeper rotting away on your bench.
Defender - Trent Alexander Arnold (£8m) vs Sheffield United (A)
After preaching the importance of penny pinching, I am aware of the irony of selecting the highest profile and most expensive defender as the man to target before gameweek 15.
However, the brief here is to select the player to watch in each position and there is no doubting Trent Alexander Arnold is the main man in the defensive ranks in FPL right now. Coming off the back of a goal and 8 point return at the Etihad in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with City,
Trent backed things up with a superbly advanced performance which yielded an assist and the last minute match winner against Fulham. Yes, he cannot defend for toffee, but that doesn't matter when his right boot can produce the magic it does.
If you have the cash, get Trent in your team for their visit to whipping boys Sheffield United. Liverpool really should win to nil, and another Trent mega haul with attacking returns aplenty looks more than likely.
Midfielder - Willian (£5.3m) vs Nottingham Forest (H)
The temptation here is to simply tell you to get Mo Salah and forget everyone else, with the Egyptian probably smarting from not bagging in a 4-3 thriller and with an easy opponent to take out his frustrations on. However, with the FPL legend already having high enough ownership, the midfielder who is worth honing in on this week is the veteran Willian.
Many eyebrows were raised when Fulham brought the former Chelsea and Arsenal man back to England, but he is enjoying an Indian Summer in his career and is arguably the talisman of Craven Cottage right now.
His opponent this week is a Nottingham Forest team who are under pressure themselves after a damaging home loss to Everton last time out, and although Willian only got a solitary point at Anfield on the weekend, that is no disgrace.
He scooped 13 in his last home game against Wolves and with four of the next five showing as 'green' (easy) fixtures on the FPL official fixture ticker, the Brazilian can be a nice enabler in your squad over this Christmas period at just £5.3m. He is also on penalties, which always helps in FPL!
Forward - Dominic Solanke (£6.5m) vs Crystal Palace (A)
Bournemouth seem to have turned the corner under new manager Andoni Iraola, and not a moment too soon as the gaffer was coming under pressure in the Premier League Sack Race. The Cherries coach is relentlessly attacking and even when struggling earlier this season, Dominic Solanke was enjoying leading the line. With six goals so far he has an outside chance of sneaking into Gareth Southgate's thoughts before Euro 2024, but before all that the busy Festive period offers a great chance to recruit Solanke and forget about him.
His minutes are assured and the Cherries fixture run of Crystal Palace (A), Man United (A), Luton (H), Nottingham Forest (A) and Fulham (H) makes plenty of appeal for the chief Cherry goal threat. In the last four weeks he has blanked twice but also brought home 7 and 13 points. Iraola's tactics could bamboozle the old stager of the Premier League Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park, but even if Bournemouth are defeated I'd be surprised if they didn't find their way onto the scoresheet. If that eventuality occurs, Solanke should be the man to strike the blow to the Eagles.
