Fantasy Football Tips: Three must have picks for Gameweek 14
We have a cracking slate of fixtures in the Premier League this weekend and FPL expert Holly Shand returns with her advice for Gameweek 14.
Gameweek 13 Review
Gameweek 13 ended on 49 points for me as I navigated this difficult week by rolling the free transfer. Returns from my premium players Haaland, Salah and Saka were the highlights, plus an unlikely goal in defence from Lascelles.
We knew Gameweek 13 would be tough coming off the international break with some tricky matchups. Kieran Trippier produced a rare home blank while Jarrod Bowen missed out altogether through injury, but captain favourite Haaland took his chance emphatically against Liverpool. Here’s the must-haves for FPL Gameweek 14.
Defender: William Saliba vs Wolves (H)
If you’re shopping for a defender this week then Arsenal’s William Saliba is an excellent option. At this time of year when the fixture schedule is compressed, it’s important to pick players who generally play 90 minutes and are rarely rotated.
The Gunners have kept six clean sheets so far this season, including three in the last six gameweeks. Saliba has already popped up with a goal and an assist in this campaign. Arsenal face a goal shy Wolves side at home this week, followed by promoted Luton.
Midfield: Mohamed Salah vs Fulham (H)
Mohamed Salah has a flawless record at Anfield this season, scoring in every single game. In fact, he’s delivered a leading nine goal involvements in six home matches: eight goals and one assist. With three goals and an assist in the last four he shows no sign of slowing.
Salah has a great record against Fulham, including double digit hauls home and away against them in the last campaign. Penalties continue to be a key route to points for the Egyptian too, with Liverpool sitting fourth for spot-kicks received this season, on four.
Forward: Ollie Watkins vs Bournemouth (A)
2023/24 looks set to be a special season for Aston Villa, with Ollie Watkins an important part of that. Only Erling Haaland can better his 15 goal involvements this season, with goals in his last two games alone. He’s beginning to find some consistency in his performances on the road.
Watkins has been an ever-present for Aston Villa this season, completing the full 90 minutes on 10 occasions in this campaign. His underlying numbers remain encouraging as well, sitting second for big chances on goal in the last four gameweeks with six.
