Heading into the weekend Everton sit just two points and two places above the relegation zone, however they do have a game in hand over their relegation threatened rivals below them. The betting markets still fancy The Toffees to survive this season, pricing them at 4/1 to slip down to the second tier, an implied probability of just 20%.
The side one place and one point below Everton in the standings is Nottingham Forest, meaning a win for the visitors would be a huge step towards safety along with leapfrogging Dyche’s men. Forest have only won one of their last eight league matches and won just one of their last eight Premier League games against Everton (D2 L5), with that victory coming at Goodison Park in January 1999 under Ron Atkinson.
Everton vs Nottingham Forest Tips
Everton’s 6-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge on Monday thanks to a Cole Palmer masterclass was the heaviest defeat of Sean Dyche’s Premier League managerial career. We fully expect him to tighten things up against Forest and this could be a tight affair that is well decided over a set-piece.
Everton have created more xG from set-pieces this season than any other side in the league and couple this with the fact that Forest have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any other side and it gives us a nice recipe for a punt on James Tarkowski.
Tarkowski is often the focal point of attack from set pieces and at 18/5 with Parimatch he looks a generous price to record one or more shots on target. Other firms such as Paddy Power and Betfair have him priced considerably shorter at just 12/5, and although he may have only recorded four between the sticks this season, we believe he makes appeal considering how vulnerable from set-plays Forest have been.
For our longshot we are looking to knock one out the park with an eye-watering 42/1 poke. As we have mentioned James Tarkowski can be a real threat in the opposition box and we are backing him to both score and be carded with Sky Bet.
The former Burnley centre-back has scored twice this season, but it’s not for the lack of trying why he doesn’t have more considering his 25 shots across all competitions.
Tarkowski leads the way for Everton when it comes to card-collecting having been shown nine yellow cards in the Premier League. He has been cautioned in all of his last four matches and with Everton desperate to avoid defeat, another could well be likely.
