Euro 2021 Betting: England priced as favourites to be the tournament's highest scoring team

The Three Lions lead the way
Odds have been released on which team will score the most goals at Euro 2021, and England head up the betting. The Three Lions are 5/1 to outscore their counterparts at this summer’s tournament, perhaps unsurprisingly given the plethora of attacking talent they have at their disposal.
Harry Kane claimed the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup after scoring six goals and is tipped to end his upcoming Euros campaign as the leading marksman once again, priced at 6/1 in the Euro top scorer betting market.
Alongside the Tottenham forward, who obtained the Premier League top scorer award last week after scoring 23 goals in the top-flight during 2020/21, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho - who have scored a combined 53 goals for club and country this season - will only serve to enhance England’s chances of scoring a tonne of goals at next month’s tournament.
Placed in a group alongside Scotland, the Czech Republic and Croatia, the Three Lions have a good chance of racking up the goal-count in the group stage. After that, though, things become a lot trickier. Should they do as expected and win Group D, Gareth Southgate’s side will face either Portugal, Germany, France or Hungary - depending on which of those sides finish as runners-up in Group F - in the last-16 at the Euros. With the latter likely to finish bottom and therefore be knocked out of the tournament, it leaves a stern test for England; one which could easily curtail their journey in the competition.
However, finish second in the group and the route to the quarter-finals become a little easier (on paper). Should England finish as runners-up, they will likely be drawn against either Sweden, Poland or Slovakia in the last-16 (runners-up in Group E) - each of whom you would fancy them to progress against and in turn boost their tally in front of goal. Here’s hoping, anyway.
Les Bleus' attack should be feared
Another interesting proposition is France, priced at 8/1 in the betting. Les Bleus are joint-favourites to win Euro 2021 alongside England at 5/1, and have arguably the strongest attack of any present at this year’s tournament. The likes of Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have each scored over 25 goals in all competitions this term - the latter netting 45 for club and country in what has been another tremendous individual campaign for the 22-year-old.
France’s price in this market is reflective of the group they have been drawn in. Alongside Germany and Portugal, we could be in for some low-scoring affairs as teams of similar quality can often cancel each other out. However, their potential longevity at the tournament definitely boosts their chances, and at 8/1 (best-price with bet365), they could be a shrewd ante-post pick.
Elsewhere in the betting, Spain are third-favourites at 7/1. Luis Enrique’s men are in a favourable group alongside Sweden, Poland and Slovakia and will fancy their chances of qualifying for the latter stages of the tournament while racking up the goals in the process.
Belgium, Holland and Italy are all 6/1 fancies and each possess the attacking capabilities to challenge for the highest-scoring team title.
Portugal the value?
Perhaps most surprisingly of all, though, is Portugal’s price at 14/1. It is no secret just what an exciting squad the current holders have, and with a 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo still banging them in at a startling consistent rate spearheading their attack, A Seleção’s ability to score a shed load of goals at Euro 2021 should not be underplayed.
Alongside the veteran marksman, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota and Bernardo Silva will all provide support in the final third and provide huge contributions in the goals department. The snag is, just like the world champions, Portugal could find things tough in the group phase up against Germany and France, but with so much attacking talent I would perhaps be inclined to take a bit of the 14/1 on offer from William Hill and bet365.
