This will be the first of two international friendly matches for Gareth Southgate’s side before they set off for Germany and bid for European glory. England are the current favorites with the bookmakers to go all the way and win Euro 2024, priced at 3/1 with most firms.
Bosnia unfortunately will not be competing at this summer’s European Championships after failing to qualify from Group J. Since the breakup of Yugoslavia, Bosnia have only reached one major tournament, which came back in 2014 when the World Cup was held in Brazil.
England vs Bosnia and Herzegovina Predictions
Bosnia arrive in Newcastle off the back of four consecutive defeats that all came in attempting to qualify for the European Championships. When it comes to international friendly matches, you have to go all the way back to 2018 to find the last time they were victorious away from home soil.
For my main bet of the evening I’m backing the Three Lions to win the match, but with Under 3.5 goals being scored. There are plenty of Southgate’s second-string who will be looking to impress on Monday to bolster their chances of featuring in Germany and all things considered, England should have more than enough quality to come out on top.
However, friendlies often can be rather underwhelming affairs and I don’t think this will be a high scoring contest as many are predicting. Taking a look back at England friendlies in recent years and seven of their last eight victories have featured under four goals, and with them priced at just 1/8 in the match result market, backing a home win with Under 3.5 goals looks a nice way in.
The other selection I feel is worth highlighting is for Kieran Trippier to record one shot on target in the match. It can often be hard to predict starting line-ups for friendlies with managers looking to experiment with their crop, however Gareth Southgate has stated that Trippier will start as captain for England in his home stadium.
Trippier can be deadly from set-pieces, as seen when scoring from range in the World Cup semi-final back in 2018. I think the 33-year-old will pull rank on free-kicks this evening and with 10/3 on show from Sky Bet, I think it’s a very backable price. Betfair and Paddy Power have this same selection priced at just 13/10, so take almost double the odds with Sky.
