World Cup 2022 Odds: Harry Kane favourite to be England Top Goalscorer in Qatar

It’s coming home! Or is it? Probably not, but you best believe as soon as Harry Kane scores one goal against Iran the whole country will be singing those famous three words.
Speaking of Harry Kane, the forward has been well backed with most bookmakers to successfully defend his Golden Boot, for which he is the 8/1 favourite to win.
Below we’ve taken a look at the England Top Goalscorer odds in Qatar and talked you through some of the key contenders in the market...
Harry Kane - 4/6
It’s no surprise to see Harry Kane as the 4/6 favourite with Paddy Power to be England’s top goalscorer. This tournament should actually see The Three Lions captain become England’s all-time top scorer so that should give you an indication of how prolific he is at international level.
Kane is also the favourite for the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup, the bookies are clearly fancying him to have a solid campaign and with his scoring record for England, you’d be silly to write him off. Here’s how he has performed at recent major tournaments for his country…
Euro 2020 Goals
- Games: 7
- Goals: 4
World Cup 2018 Goals
- Games: 6
- Goals: 6
Since Kane has become a regular starter for club and country, he has become unstoppable and has turned into a goalscoring machine.
It’s hard to see anyone in this England team outscoring the striker, 4/6 actually could prove to be a really good bet, but as a single it may not be the most attractive price. If you were to double up Harry Kane to be England’s top goalscorer with another selection, it could definitely be worth it.
Raheem Sterling - 8/1
Raheem Sterling was arguably England’s main man at Euro 2020. Early days, England were looking out of sorts when it came to scoring, so up stepped Raheem Sterling and carried his nation to the knockouts.
Sterling was at one point the only player to have scored a goal for England up until Kane scored in the 86th minute against Germany in the quarter-finals. In poetic fashion when Kane scored his first goal of the tournament, he then went on to score a couple more and Raheem Sterling failed to score any after that.
Despite a quiet start to the season by his standards, Sterling’s space in the starting XI for England isn’t in doubt which could make Betfair's 8/1 price for him to be England’s leading goalscorer look all the better but as previously mentioned, it’s tough to back against Kane who will be England’s main source of goals and their penalty taker for the tournament.
Phil Foden - 12/1
Phil Foden is next in the market for England’s top goalscorer representing odds of 12/1. The Manchester City youngster is easily one of the hottest prospects in football and for his age is an absolutely sublime player.
Foden is another player who looks likely to be starting most games for England at the World Cup, and more importantly for this bet, on the wing. Foden has moved into more of a winger these days which should definitely open up opportunities for goals as opposeed to playing that central attacking midfield role.
However, as good as Foden is, his goalscoring record for England is not ideal. Foden has only managed two goals in his England career, both of them coming in the same game which was a 4-0 win over Iceland in the Nations League.
There’s no doubting how good Foden is but I’d really be looking elsewhere for goals in the England setup. He is more than capable of scoring a few but for him to outscore Kane and Sterling, I’d be wanting a bigger price than 12/1.
Callum Wilson - 20/1
The man of the moment, Callum Wilson! Many people were expecting Ivan Toney to be the one playing second fiddle to Harry Kane but following Wilson’s recent performances with Newcastle who are flying in the Premier League, he has made the Three Lions squad.
Wilson has come in as a 20/1 shot for England’s top goalscorer and whilst he is more than capable of scoring goals, ultimately, he will be playing as Harry Kane’s backup and I’m not sure about you, but I wouldn’t be backing a backup striker to be their nation's top scorer.
Crazier things have happened! But barring a freak injury to Harry Kane (touch wood) Wilson probably won’t see much playing time in Qatar.
