England vs Chile Betting Tips: Two predictions for Saturday's Rugby World Cup match
Two wins out of two has firmly helped England put one foot into the knockout stages of the 2023 Rugby World Cup and Steve Borthwick's side are red-hot favourites to make it three wins on the bounce on Saturday when they face a Chile side that have lost their opening two matches. The two nations do battle in Lille this weekend and our man Steve Chambers has picked out his two best bets for what is likely to be a pretty one-sided affair with limited punting options...
England vs Chile Tips
After an authoritative 27-10 win over Argentina in their first Rugby World Cup match, England failed to kick on in their second match with Japan as they were only able to pull clear of their lowly rivals in the second half, as they won the match 34-12. Steve Borthwick's side will now face the real minnows of the group, Chile, in their penultimate Pool D game and England are as short as 1/1000 with the bookmakers which emphasises the real chasm in quality between the two sides.
Chile kicked off their World Cup with a 42-12 defeat to Japan, while they were dispatched 43-10 by Samoa and they are set to be involved in another drubbing here, but with England being so short in the betting then you have to look hard for some potential value plays in what should be a one-sided affair from the first whistle.
Borthwick has rung the changes with qualification all-but sealed and all eyes will be on the return of Owen Farrell, who returns to fly-half after serving his suspension and he is as big as 11/5 to score anytime. However, the one to watch is Elliot Daly, who switches to outside centre from the wing, so there could be some possible value in him scoring in 80 minutes and the 7/5 with BoyleSports looks too big to miss.
He's yet to score in the tournament, but with his adaptability it could see him switch positions during the match, as Borthwick could move him back to the wing or to full-back as the game goes on, and even if he stays in the midfield he's more than capable of breaking down a leaky Chile rearguard and with some bookmakers offering odds-on prices about Daly scoring, the 7/5 looks a rick.
With Borthwick making 12 changes then there could be a new, vibrant England side ready to try and rack the tries up on Saturday afternoon, and while there will be bigger fish to fry later in the tournament this could be the game that sees them try things from an attacking sense. They may not have the flare of a France of New Zealand, but England led by Farrell should be able to near double-figures on the amount of tries, so back the 10/11 with bet365 for England -49 on the handicap.
Chile have been weak in both matches against the lowly pair of Japan and Samoa, so England should be able to overpower them in all areas and with fresh legs sure to put the pressure on a tiring Chilean defence in the second half then England can quite comfortably cover the handicap.
For those looking for some bigger prices could take a chance on the 14/1 on offer with William Hill for England to win by 66-70 points, although it's probably wise to stick with the -49 on the handicap as England make it three wins from three.
