Coventry were beaten 2-1 by high flyers Ipswich on their most recent league outing, after managing back-to-back victories against Millwall and Plymouth. Those results leave Mark Robins’ side in 17th in the table, six points clear of the drop zone and eight off the play-off places.
Birmingham have collected a measly five points from a possible 24 since Wayne Rooney was appointed manager. The club have struggled to rediscover the form they showed in the early stage of the campaign under John Eustace, but heading into Friday’s clash they sit just a point ahead of Coventry, occupying 15th in the second-tier standings.
Coventry City vs Birmingham City Tips
Both of my selections for Friday night football arrive from player props markets and the first of those I’ve taken a lean towards is for Ben Sheaf recording 2+ shots in the match at 5/6.
The Coventry man may have only scored two goals this season but it isn’t for the lack of trying. In total, Sheaf has let off 30 attempts this season and averages a healthy 2.3 shots per game in home matches this term.
Looking back at his shot data this season and in league matches at the Coventry Building Society Arena and his recent totals read: 4,2,4,2,2. With this bet landing in his last five home matches I make the 5/6 on offer with Sky Bet a nice bit of value, while others such as bet365 go just 2/5.
Next up I like the look of Krystian Bielik to give away 3+ fouls in the match at a boosted 7/2 with Sky Bet. The Birmingham City man was shown a whopping 13 yellow cards in the league last season and is on course to eclipse that figure this time round after already collecting six in his first 17 matches.
No player who will be on the pitch on Friday has given away more fouls for this season than Bielik, with him giving away three or more in four of his last eight starts for the club. After Wayne Rooney questioned the character of some of his players last weekend I expect them to put everything on the line here and Bielik looks a strong proposition to rack up the fouls in the Midlands.
