Colombia vs. Uruguay Betting Tips: Back Bielsa's side for the win
We have a World Cup qualifier from South America on the cards on Thursday evening with Colombia taking on Uruguay in Barranquilla. Here at bettingodds.com, we’ve previewed the action and have made a case for two tips that we like the look of, including a selection from the shots on target market.
This will be the third round of South American fixtures as teams look to qualify for the 2026 World Cup that will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
After reaching the quarter-finals and last-16 at the 2014 and 2018 renewals, Colombia failed to qualify for the most recent World Cup in Qatar. La Tricolor have taken four points so far from a possible six, after managing a 1-0 win over Venezuela before sharing the spoils with Chile in a goalless draw in September.
Uruguay are bidding to make it to a fifth consecutive World Cup and kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win over Chile in Montevideo. They then travelled to Ecuador where Agustin Canobbio opened the scoring, only for Felix Torres to bag a brace and secure all three points for the hosts in a 2-1 victory.
Colombia vs Uruguay Tips
Our first selection on Thursday is with BetMGM, where new customers will bag themselves £40 in Free Bets when they sign up and bet £10. It’s a player from the shots on target that we have taken a lean towards for our main play of the evening with Uruguay’s Federico Valverde being priced at 6/5 to clear the 0.5 line.
The 25-year-old increased his attacking output last season with ten goals in total for his club and country. This term Valverde has recorded at least one shot on target in seven of his nine starts for Real Madrid and also found the net for his national side in the 3-1 win over Chile back in September.
We’re also recommending getting Uruguay onside for this clash, with BetMGM a stand-out best-price of 3/1 for the visitors to get the win. Uruguay have been much improved since Marcel Bielsa took over back in May. The former Leeds boss oversaw two comfortable Friendly wins over Nicaragua and Cuba to kick-off his tenure and there is no denying that he has plenty of talent in this crop of players that he has inherited.
In Darwin Nunez, Manuel Ugarte, Ronald Arujo and Federico Valverde, Uruguay have a solid spine of players who play their club football for some of the most prestigious teams around Europe. This will be the toughest test so far for El Loco since he took the reins at Uruguay, but at 3/1 in the match result market, they look too big a price which cannot be ignored.
