Chelsea’s hopes of securing some form of European football next season are alive and well despite large portions of this season not going to plan for Mauricio Pochettino. Heading into the weekend they find themselves eighth in the table, just four points behind Manchester United in sixth.
West Ham managed a 2-2 draw with Liverpool on their most recent outing, which left Jurgen Klopp’s side deflated as his time at the club draws to a close. The Hammers beat Chelsea 3-1 when the teams met in the league earlier this season, but they are not fancied to do the double over their fellow Londoners, priced at 15/4 to do so. The draw can be backed at 18/5, while a win for Chelsea is on show at 4/6.
Chelsea vs West Ham Tips
Chelsea were unlucky not to take all three points from a trip to Aston Villa last weekend after a late Axel Disasi goal was ruled out by VAR. The Blues then followed that up with a 2-0 win over Spurs at The Bridge on Thursday evening and have now only tasted defeat once in their last 11 league matches, which came in the 5-0 thumping at Arsenal.
West Ham could be classed by some as being a little bit on the beach now they have exited the Europa League. The Hammers remain one place behind Chelsea in the league table and with more time to prepare for this game they should be a little fresher.
Rumours of David Moyes leaving the club in the summer after fans being fed up with his style of football are starting to gather strength and it doesn’t bode well for a win on Sunday considering his record against Chelsea. Moyes has never won an away Premier League match against Chelsea in 18 attempts (D7 L11) and backing the hosts to win with both teams scoring looks a nice angle here.
Alfie Gilchrist is a youngster who looks to have a massive future ahead of him and he’s been really impressive when called into the first team for Chelsea this season. Gilchrist has now started back-to-back matches and should line up at right-back against The Hammers.
This should mean that the direct opponent is Mohammed Kudus who has been a foul-magnet over the course of the campaign. Only Bruno Guimaraes and Jordan Ayew have drawn more fouls than Kudus this season in the league and he could be an issue for the youthful Chelsea defender. Gilchrist has only started two Premier League games this season, but he was carded against Arsenal and gave away two fouls against Spurs on Thursday, giving appeal to his price for booking here.
