Chelsea vs Liverpool Preview
Quite how seriously Liverpool will be taking this game, having sealed the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s first season in England last weekend, remains to be seen; however, hopefully, they’ve managed to sleep off any celebration-induced hangovers by Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will be highly motivated as they look to stay in the race for Champions League qualification, having had to settle for Europe’s third-tier competition this season.
A constant in meetings between these sides in recent seasons has been plenty of offsides.
Over 4.5 offsides has landed in each of the last six head-to-heads, across which there has been an average of 6.17 offsides. Both sides have also contributed plenty to that offside count with two or more for each team in four of those matches, whereas the reverse fixture saw five infringements, all for the Champions.
Chelsea’s games at Stamford Bridge are seeing an average of 4.3 offsides with at least five on five occasions, whereas for Liverpool away the average sits at 4.18 with five or more in nine of 17 league games on the road and six of their last seven.
With Liverpool likely to rotate, we could well see Darwin Nunez get a start and with the Uruguayan caught offside regularly and twice in 60 minutes in the reverse fixture, we would only need a few more from the rest of the outfield players to land this bet for the seventh game in a row between the two sides.
While he’s usually found on the left wing, Luis Diaz has been deployed as a central striker in recent weeks and has averaged 2.62 shots per 90 across the season.
The Colombian needs no invitation to pull the trigger and has landed this bet in six of his last seven starts if you include his replacements’ shots when substituted, something which Bet365 now pay out for as part of their ‘Sub On, Play On’ offer.
In games against Chelsea, he’s also had plenty of shots, averaging 3.74 efforts per 90, landing this bet in all six appearances against the Blues, including two from the bench in the reverse fixture.
Chelsea come into this game highly motivated due to the race for the top five, however, a midweek trip to Sweden will mean they could well be fatigued.
In home games they concede 10.3 shots per game but when Liverpool last came to town in the EFL Cup back in 2024, they managed 23 with Diaz responsible for five.
With the Reds playing without pressure, they can attack at will and Diaz can be the beneficiary, as he was in this fixture last season where he netted the opener from one of his four shots.
