Sunderland vs Newcastle BTTS
We start early with the 12.30pm kick-off between old rivals Sunderland and Newcastle, which should be a cracker.
Newcastle's form has fallen off a cliff in recent weeks following an alarming return of seven defeats from their last eight matches, which includes two cup exits and a sudden slide down to 9th in the table.
The Toon’s away form has been particularly poor. They’ve lost seven of the last eight on the road and the last five on the spin, giving their travelling support just the one win in 11 since September.
Sunderland will be loving this ahead of Saturday’s clash. The Black Cats look to have turned a corner under new boss Michael Beale who has pieced together a three game unbeaten run, consisting of two wins and a draw.
With Newcastle’s form and clean sheet shy defence suffering a confidence crisis - one shutout in 11 away games - there’s every chance Sunderland can find the back of the net at the very least.
Blackburn vs Cambridge BTTS
Blackburn will be hoping that the FA Cup offers some respite following a return of one point from their last five matches. They will be expected to bounce back at home to Cambridge and I can see there being a few goals in this one.
Rovers have kept one clean sheet in 15 games, conceding in each of their last nine, while worrying they have leaked in two or more goals in eight of those nine games.
Cambridge have disposed of Bracknell and Fleetwood in the last two rounds, scoring six combined goals in the process, and will fancy their chances of having a real go at their Championship opponents at Ewood Park, where the hosts have kept just one clean sheet all season.
Gillingham vs Sheffield United BTTS
Gillingham may well feature on a few giant killing betting slips this weekend given Sheffield United's notable struggles this season. The Blades' form book is splattered in negative red, with a whopping 16 of their 20 matches in all competitions ending in defeat.
The Premier League side have failed to keep a clean sheet in 14 straight games stretching back to April, while earlier this season they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Lincoln, who came away from Bramall Lane with the win.
Gillingham have had a timely boost in the form of back-to-back league wins but while I'm not going to go as far to say that the Gills will conjure up a prized victory on Saturday, I think the hosts have every chance of finding the back of the net against their out-of-sorts top-flight opponents.
Sheff Wed vs Cardiff BTTS
We round things off with an all-Championship clash at Hillsborough in a repeat of the league game that took place here a few weeks ago.
On that occasion, Cardiff mounted a late comeback to secure a 2-1 win, however, a resurgent Sheff Wed have won their last two games on the spin and will be after revenge on Saturday.
BTTS has been green ticked in each of their last five home games while they've kept just two clean sheets in 15 in front of their fans.
Cardiff have conceded in 12 of their 15 away outings so far this term, with BTTS landing in over half of those.
