Liverpool head to Brentford in Saturday’s early kick-off in the Premier League. Klopp’s men have a bust few months ahead of them and are clinging on to the league’s top spot by their fingernails. They are aware of the threat that the Bees pose having lost 3-1 in this fixture last season.
Brentford beat Wolves 2-0 last weekend to bounce back from their home defeat against Manchester City in their last home match. They welcome another of the title contenders to the Gtech Community Stadium here and will be looking to make it back-to-back wins over Liverpool at this ground.
The Reds eased past Burnley in their last match. They remain at the top of the table but the pressure is on. Arsenal have put themselves back in the equation after their stellar performance against Klopp’s men a couple of weeks ago. Who could forget about Manchester City, Pep’s side are poised to take Liverpool’s place at the top having played a game less than the leaders.
Thomas Frank has five players ruled out of this one with injury. Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade, Josh Dasilva and Bryan Mbuemo are all absent. However, the return of Ivan Toney has made a huge difference so the team should put in a strong display here.
Klopp has absentees of his own. Injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip and Kostas Tskimakas have weakened their defence. Dominik Szoboszlai, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago are all missing in midfield. Mohamed Salah is due to return from injury but this one could be just too soon for him.
Brentford vs Liverpool Tips
The first of our betting angles for the main bet builder is Liverpool to make under 17.5 tackles.
Liverpool are averaging 16.67 tackles per away game in the Premier League this season. That’s still below the line here but the recent numbers have been much lower. The Reds have played seven league matches on the road since the start of November. If we exclude their trip to Bournemouth, which appears to be an anomaly when looking at their overall statistics, Liverpool are averaging just 12.67 tackles. Even with the 32 tackles made against the Cherries, Klopp’s side still only averaged 12.67 tackles in away games during that period.
Brentford have played 12 home matches in the league and their opponents have made an average of 15 tackles per game. Just one opposing team in the last nine of those games has exceed the 17 tackles mark.
The head-to-head data also shows promise. Liverpool made 10 tackles when these sides met earlier this season and just nine the last time they visited this ground.
We are also backing Liverpool to have at least 16 shots in the match. Their 24 Premier League matches have seen an average of 19.04 shots. Klopp’s men had 17 shots when they beat Brentford earlier this season and 16 in this fixture last season.
Our longer odds bet uses the same angles as the main bet with different lines. This variation of the bet landed with ease in Brentford’s last home game, with Manchester City managing 25 shots and making just 11 tackles. Liverpool will be looking for a similarly strong performance.
The Reds’ attack has fared well without Mohamed Salah and they managed 25 shots in the win over Burnley. They have had 22 shots or more in three of their last four league matches.
