Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini Tips
As Opta said, this will be the first Women's Singles Final (Jasmine Paolini v Barbora Krejcikova) at a Grand Slam during the Open Era where the two opponents previously met in a Grand Slam qualifier – Australian Open 2018.
Before Wimbledon, the Czech really struggled in 2024. Apart from her Australian Open run, where she reached the quarter-finals losing out to Aryna Sabalenka, she’s exited six opening round matches and has only won more than two matches in a row once in Birmingham.
She had a tough draw at Wimbledon, where she faced Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. Barbora Krejcikova was the underdog, with the Russian having had some good results on the grass the past few years, and managed to squeeze a tight three set battle winning the third 7-5.
In the next round, she needed two tie breaks to beat Katie Volynets, where she was only a small favourite against the American. The third round was Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, where the Spaniard had to retire during the second set. Her next three rounds saw the Czech being an underdog in each match. T
The first was against the in-form Danielle Collins, where she’s won two tour level titles so far this year. One in Miami, and one in Charleston, and continued her impressive campaign in Wimbledon where she beat Clara Tauson, Dalmi Galfi and Beatrice Haddad Maia. Despite the American being a heavy favourite, she lost 7-5 6-3. The next was against Jelena Ostapenko, who became one of the favourites to win the entire Grand Slam after Iga Swiatek exited early.
Again the Czech won in straight sets, 6-4 7-6. The semi final came against Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion. Despite being a set down, she beat the Kazakh 3-6 6-3 6-4. Barbora Krejcikova was a huge underdog in that game, close to 4/1 odds.
On the other side we have Jasmine Paolini, someone who has been on an insane run of form the past year. She’s currently ranked number seven and will only go higher after her run at Wimbledon. A final is an impressive feat considering she’s exited the first round every time she’s played this tournament! She’s had an impressive run, dropping just two sets during her road to the final.
Her last four matches were her toughest, where she faced Bianca Andreescu beating the Canadian in straight sets 7-6 6-1. She carried on her impressive performances against Madison Keys, who became the favourite from the bottom half after Aryna Sabalenka withdrew due to injury. The American was comfortably beating the Italian in the third set, but had to retire after suffering an injury during the match. She took that luck and managed to beat Emme Navarro easily 6-2 6-1, and then faced Donna Vekic in the semi finals. She had to come from a tough first set, losing 6-2. But managed a third set tie break and won 10-8 in the tie break.
As mentioned before, the pair have faced only once at the Australian Open back in 2018. The Czech won in a simple match, beating the Italian 6-2 6-1. I’ll back Barbora Krejcikova to win this match, and believe she should be a lot lower in odds to win this match.
