Match Preview: Turkey vs Georgia
After a desperately disappointing Euro 2020 showing, where they lost every game, Turkey will be determined to bounce back and will fancy their chances of claiming a win in their opening game. The Crescent-Stars impressed in qualification after they pipped Croatia to top spot in Group D. They won five of their eight matches, including a 1-0 win in Croatia, although that momentum has since been punctured following a five match winless run which includes a 6-1 defeat to Austria.
On the plus side, manager Vincenzo Montella has yet to lose a competitive game and oversaw a superb 3-2 win away to Germany back in November. Key players include Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and Dortmund's Salih Ozcan, while Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler is an exciting prospect who can sparkle in Group F.
Georgia will be making history in what will be their first major tournament. Led by Frenchman Willy Sagnol, Georgia finished fourth in a difficult qualifying group but advanced to the play-offs via the Nations League, where they beat Luxembourg and Greece. Georgia's shining light will be Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who played a key role in Napoli's 2022/23 Serie A triumph and has scored 15 goals for his country.
The Best Betting Markets for Turkey vs Georgia
I think Turkey represent decent value at 4/5 to get off to a winning start. Their squad boasts more experience and talent which should, on paper at least, be too strong for debutants Georgia. However, Georgia have shown they are more than capable of finding the back of the net, having scored in seven of their eight qualifiers, which includes goals in both games against Spain. With that said, a Turkey win and both teams to score looks like a logical play at 100/30.
