Plate Novices’ Chase Tips, Odds & Runners
The Plate: A Competitive Handicap
The Plate is a fiercely competitive Grade 2 handicap chase run over two and a half miles. With runners, it’s a race where you can find some real each-way value. The market is headed by the Gordon Elliott-trained Sixmilebridge (3/1), who has three newspaper naps.
The Contenders: Nicholls’s Nap vs The Field
Regent Stroll (13/2) - Nephew of Denman, proved a smart novice hurdler and has picked up C&D experience, solid overall record to boot, including form figures of 312 since switched to fences, and likely remains capable of further progress; very strong credentials.
Meetmebythesea (15/2) - for Ben Pauling, major contender, with further improvement still plausible.
Stencil (9/1) - Trained in France but campaigned exclusively in British races since the start of last year, most recently opening his chase account in Chepstow
Our 1-2-3 Prediction
-
Regent Stroll (13/2) - Lightning may well strike twice as REGENT’S STROLL (nap) seems destined to emulate his connections’ Caldwell Potter who won this contest last year
-
Meetmebythesea (15/2) - Meetmebythesea is interesting back up in distance
-
Stencil (9/1) - This low-mileage 5yo remains open to further progress and has possibilities
