Mat Sadler hung up his boots at the end of the 2021/22 season and began his coaching career as a first-team coach at Walsall. Following the sacking of manager Michael Flynn in April 2023, Sadler was placed in charge until the end of the season, a position which was made permanent in May 2023.
He held the post for three years, before departing in March 2026.
